Track And Field Teams Post Wins In Home Meet

Newtown High School's girls' and boys' track and field teams posted victories in a home meet at Blue & Gold Stadium on May 9.

The girls defeated Immaculate of Danbury 106-44 and Masuk of Monroe 101.5-48.5 to improve to 10-0 this spring. The boys defeated Immaculate 107-43 and lost to Masuk 89-61 and stand at 9-1. Results are as follows:

Girls

100 meter hurdles: 1. Makenna Cerney NHS 16.7, 3. Audrey Benson 17.9.

400: 2. Rylee Mulligan 66.4, 3. Victoria Teixiera 66.9.

300 hurdles: 1. Cerney 48.9, 2. Jordan Stofko 53.2, 3. Lauren King 54.0.

800: 2. Madison Findley 2:36.2.

3200: 3. Sarah Mawdsley 11:39.3.

High jump: 2. Cam Vazquez 4-8, 3. Elizabeth Mawdsley 4-2.

Pole vault: 1. Lauren Russo 10-6, 3. Jackie Sgobbo 8-6

Long jump: 1. Sarah Dowling 15-4.5, 2.. Sgobbo 14-2.5.

Triple jump: 1. Sgobbo 31-11.5, 3. Russo 30-7.

Shot-put: 1. Marley Marston 30-9.75, 2. Annika Alexander 30-8, 3. Carlin Cohane 26-10.

Discus: 1. Alexander 101-6, 3. Erika Teetsel 67-9.

Javelin: 1. Marston 86-11.

Boys

4x800: Ryan Escoda, Christian Lestik, Dylan Bartlett, and Joel Duval, 8:38.47.

4x100 Brett Deri, Hunter Cobb, Ben Mason, and Kevin Arther improved their time to 46.30 and qualified for the Class LL state championships.

100: Hunter Cobb improved his Class LL time to 11.3 and Cormac Roe qualified for Class LL with a time of 11.5.

110 hurdles: Cole Terry 15.06, Brett Deri 16.0.

1600: Joel Duval 4:45, Brenden Reeds 4:47.

400: Richard Linley 54.2, Jermane Anyoha 55.4.

300 hurdles: Brett Deri 42.1, Cole Terry 42.6.

800: Joe Duval 2:06, qualified for SWC championships, Dylan Bartlett 2:08.

200: Brett Deri 24.1, Cameron Mitchell 24.3, qualified for SWC.

3200: Ethan Burg 10:30.
