WATERBURY â For those who loved the Stallions on Parade, which has been held on Palm Sunday in Southbury for the past 10 years, Teikyo Post Universityâs Equine Resources Committee announces that Horses On Parade, an updated version, will be held Sunday, May 21 at the Bethany Airport Grounds on Route 63 in Bethany.
The mix of stallions, horses of different breeds (such as Icelandic, Peruvian Pasos, Dartmoor ponies, Bashkir Curly foals, Paints, and a Chincoteague Pony) together with demonstrations of equestrian expertise in dressage, driving, Western and jumping, will all be part of the new program. There will also be pony rides for the youngest horse enthusiasts and plenty of vendor tables for the adults to browse through.
Demonstrations will be given by several top trainers, including Gymnastics for Horses by Nancy Cole of Northern Lights Farm. She will be followed by a group of riders from Rivers Edge Farm, under the direction of Susan Horn. And Lance Wetmore of Bittersweet Farm will drive an impressive Friesian stallion to demonstrate the ancient breedâs ability to harness.
Other exhibits will include a colorful Arab costume demonstration by Mary Repco and a side saddles exhibition by Alice Rebhorn.
Also during the afternoon, Bettina Drummond, riding her Lusitano mare, will present her popular classical riding exhibition in full costume from the Renaissance period. International trainer David Collins is also planning to perform some dressage movements on one of his top competition horses.
The events will start at 1 p.m. and last approximately two hours. Entry fee is $5 per person, or $15 per car. All proceeds benefit scholarships for students in the Equine Management program at TPU.
