Newtown High School 'After Prom' A Fun Alternative
Newtown High School âAfter Promâ
A Fun Alternative
Itâs prom time for Newtown High School, with the date for the big night set for next Friday night, May 19. One event that has become synonymous with the gowns and tuxedoes of prom night is the âAfter Promâ party at Newtown Health and Fitness.
This year will be no different.
The 16th annual âAfter Promâ party will be held Saturday morning, from midnight until 5 am, at Newtown Health and Fitness. The event, as always, is free to students, and will offer prom-goers door prizes, volleyball, basketball, racquetball, music, dancing, and refreshments.
With each year that the event has been held, participation has steadily increased. Last year, 250 students turned up to support an alternative way to spend the after prom hours.
The NHS After Prom Committee still needs volunteers to help with the event, as significant expenses pertaining to dancing music, door prizes, and invitations have been incurred.
The event was first developed by NHS parents to supply students with a safe, fun, and substance free alternative to after prom activities that could lead to the potential of drinking and driving.
Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to call the high school, or After Prom Committee Chair Rosemary McCulloch at 426-0133.
