A Gun Control March    Â
A Gun Control March    Â
To the Editor:
In response to Marching for Gun Safety, I am very happy to learn that there are moms such as Ms Sandler who are interested in gun safety. However, I contend that its organizers will use the Million Mom March for gun control targeted at law-abiding citizens. Let me once again correct some common misinformation with regard to the facts and the reason for this march.
After reading the Million Mom March web page again, it is clear that this march is most certainly about gun control and those organizing the event are very much politically motivated. First, the mom from NJ who took out the permit for the march the day after Columbine is a professional event promoter. She has worked closely with the Clinton administration promoting events in the past. Second, Handgun Control, Inc pays for the ads on television for this march. Handgun Control, Inc. is just for that â gun control. As a matter of fact, in prior years this organization has admitted that they would like to see firearms only in the hands of the military and special police forces. Since their efforts failed to completely disarm law-abiding citizens, they have changed their tactics to be for âreasonable gun control.â  With âreasonable gun controlâ they can slowly chip away at the Second Amendment.  Â
Regarding licensing there is already a âlimitâ as to who may own a handgun. In order to buy a handgun in the state of CT, you must:
be 21 years of age
clear a criminal records check (including domestic violence)
pass a handgun safety course by a certified instructor
be fingerprinted and have your fingerprints submitted to the state police and FBI
On the subject of registration, history teaches us that registration always precedes confiscation. In England and Australia the government first required the registration of firearms in the name of safety and then proceeded to disarm the law abiding citizens. Of course, this caused the crime rate to increase. We should be very wary of a government that wants to âregisterâ any of our rights.Â
Finally, as I stated in my previous letter, any loss of a childâs life is tragic. However, I do not believe that any of the gun control measures listed on the million mom march web page would have stopped the Columbine rampage, gang killings, or even the young boy who was left with criminals and got his hands on a stolen gun. Again, I ask all parents not to be fooled by politicians and figureheads that promise gun control will solve these problems. The Million Mom March will be used by Handgun Control, Inc. as a means to slowly disarm law abiding citizens while leaving criminals well armed.
