Janet Tanner
Janet Tanner departed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 6, at the age of 93.
Janet was born on January 22, 1931, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She attended and graduated from Stratford High School. She married Robert Tanner in 1951, then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas for her husband’s naval service and lived there for five years.
She moved back to Stratford and finally relocated to Newtown, where she resided for many years raising her family. Janet retired in 1995 after 15 years of employment at Fairfield Hills Hospital in the Human Resources Department.
She was known for her generosity, kindness, and talkative personality. Her love for her family was genuine and insurmountable, always making sure we had everything we needed to be happy and that we were well fed. Her thoughtfulness extended beyond her family.
She was often seen walking around her neighborhood, making conversations with her neighbors. Her neighborliness did not just stop with friendly conversations. If anyone mentioned that they needed something, she would scurry home to get the needed items and deliver them to her neighbors.
Survivors in her loving family include her brother, James Demovick of Southington; her children, Robert Tanner and his wife Melanie of Wallingford, David Tanner and his wife Ruth of New Milford, and Susan Amorando and her husband Allen of Thomaston; her grandchildren, Christine Seibold and her husband, Jason of New Milford, Allen Amorando and his wife Kari of New Milford, Jessica Tanner and her husband David Campagna of Canterbury, Heather Arsenault and her husband J of Canterbury, N.H., Katie Blake and her husband Brian of Southbury, Ryan Tanner and his wife Kristi Tanner, and Jacob Amorando and his partner Danielle Yesulaites of Woodbury; and her eight great grandchildren, Ben Seibold, Noah Seibold, Brayden Blake, Carson Blake, Alyssa Amorando, Adam Amorando, Ava Amorando, and Brody Tanner.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Robert Tanner; her son, Ted Tanner; and her parents, Helen Demovick and Frank Demovick.
We will forever miss Janet’s bright smile, her loving nature, and her incessant questions. She was gentle but fierce and very loyal to her family. She will always be remembered as the sweetest person with unparalleled compassion for everyone.
Funeral services and calling hours will be at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, on Monday May 13, at 10 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in Janet’s memory.
