Record Set As Track And Field Teams Remain Undefeated
Newtown High School's girls' and boys' track and field teams remained unbeaten this spring, and the girls' squad had a school record-setting effort in a meet at Newtown High's Blue & Gold Stadium, on May 7.
The Nighthawks defeated Brookfield 111-39 and Joel Barlow of Redding 109-41.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Brianna Lovely, Carly Swierbut, Grace Pettinelli, and Emma Curtis broke the school record in a time of 50.1 seconds.
Newtown's 4x800 relay of Maddie Fetchick, Eirenie Athanasoulis, Hallie Filan, and Cate Norton won in 11:00.
Swierbut was first in the 100 in 12.6, and the 200 in 25.5.
Camille Johnson won the 800 in 2:28.
Sarah Tressler was first in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-10.
Marley Marston was first in the discus throw with a distance of 109-2, and in the shot-put with a 35-4.5.
Sarah Nowacki won the javelin throw with a 93-9.
The boys' squad went to Joel Barlow on May 8 and defeated Barlow 122-28 and Brookfield 121-28.
Newtown's 4x100 relay team of Brett Deri, Connor Marlin, Todd Perrin, and Tom Shkreli won in 45.1 seconds.
The 4x400 team of Grant Moxham, Christian Lestik, Perrin, and Deri won in 3:34.5.
The 4x800 team of Nick Jacobs, Ryan Escoda, Justin Halmose, and Evan Hildenbrand won in 8:43.4.
Tom Hartley was first in the 110 hurdles in 17.4.
Shkreli won the 100 in a time of 11.1, and the 200 in 22.9.
Escoda won the 1600 in 4:36.9, and the 3200 in 10:25.2.
Moxham was first in the 400 in 53.5.
Deri was first in the 300 hurdles in 40.9.
Lestik won the 800 in 2:06.1.
Zach Crebbin was first in the high jump, clearing 6-foot-2, and in the long jump with a 19-7.
Aiden Jasinski won the pole vault event clearing 11-6.
Perrin won the triple jump with a 39-7.
