NHS Students Asked To Submit Slogans For New Marching Band & Guard Truck
Newtown Prevention Council is seeking Newtown High School students to submit a slogan to be placed on the recently purchased NHS Marching Band and Guard truck.contest@trafficsafety.us.
The slogan would be displayed wherever the band plays. The truck will also be visible with the winners' slogan displayed on it when parked on the Fairfield Hills campus.
Two slogan designs are requested.ÃÂ The first is a slogan designed to discourage distracted driving. The second to discourage drinking and driving. One slogan will be visible on each side of the truck, according to the Newtown Prevention Council.
Judges and students will determine the two winners (one for distracted driving and the other for drinking and driving).
Judges will include Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr, First Selectman Pat Llodra, State police spokesman Lieutenant J. Paul Vance, Newtown Chief of Police James Viadero, and NHS students.
A winner will be determined based on creativity, likelihood of the slogan leading to behavior change, and "overall awesomeness," according to an announcement for the slogan contest.
Submissions must be received no later than May 13. Students can enter up to two times for each slogan, and full submission rules and requests are available by e-mail at
