Author Peter H. Reynolds Visits Sandy Hook School
Author Peter H. Reynolds visited Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday, April 22, and gave presentations for students.The Dot in September.Going Places.The Dot. In his bookstore, The Blue Bunny Books & Toys, in Dedham, Mass, Mr Reynolds said they sell journals with blank pages. Every night Mr Reynolds writes or draws in his own blank journal, but one night he fell asleep with his marker still on a page.The Dot," said Mr Reynolds.The Dot shares the story of a student, Vashti, who learns she is an artist, despite feeling otherwise in the beginning.Ish, and the third book, Sky Color, near the end of his presentation.
At the start of one of the presentations, Assistant Principal Tim Napolitano told the gathered students, "We have a special treat today," before introducing Mr Reynolds.
Mr Napolitano said each student at the school read Mr Reynolds' book
Mr Reynolds began his presentation by sharing information about his twin brother, Paul A. Reynolds, who is also a published author. The brothers co-wrote the book
"The good news in life is that we have family and we have friends," said Mr Reynolds.
While he told students his brother could not attend Sandy Hook School for the day with him, he said the students can "hang out with" his brother simply by opening one of his books.
Mr Reynolds told each of the students they are artists, before sharing how he came up with the idea behind
When he woke, "There was this big dot," said Mr Reynolds.
The next morning, Mr Reynolds said, he decided it was "a pretty cool dot." So he signed the page and wrote the words, "The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds."
"That's what inspired
After starting to read the book to students, Mr Reynolds asked two students for assistance. Students Rory Coon and Reece Beaty played characters in the book while Mr Reynolds read.
There are three books in the "Creatrilogy" series, and Mr Reynolds highlighted both the sequel,
Mr Reynolds told the students if they ever want to hear from him, "Open up one of my books and I will be there."
Sandy Hook music teacher Maryrose Kristopik led students in singing "The Dot Song" by Emily Arrow. The song was inspired by Mr Reynolds' book.
"An empty paper, like a polar bear in a snowstorm," the students sang as Ms Kristopik strummed her guitar. "See where it takes you. See where it take you… make, make, make a mark. Make it matter."
