Crew Club Members Compete In Regatta
Four members of the Newtown High School Rowing Club competed in the Long Island Junior Championship Regatta, racing for GMS from New Milford, on May 5. The race was in Oyster Bay, Long Island, and was 1,500 meters long.
Anthony Vournazos raced a JV single race and placed second in his heat, earning a silver medal. He also placed second overall between the two heats with the second best time out of 18 entries.
Patrick Berger earned a silver medal, racing a novice double with Alex Rajagopolan of New Milford. Berger also raced up in a JV double with Max Kelly of New Milford and placed fifth despite the stiff competition.
Constantine Gregoire raced a JV quad with Kyle Onorato of Brookfield, along with Conor Donadio and John Habjan of New Milford. They placed second, earning a silver medal.
Dayna Briante raced a novice quad with Sara Wilton and Hannah Delohery of New Milford and Jill Rajkumar of Ridgefield in a very competitive race, winning a silver medal.
On May 18, the team will compete at the USRowing Northeast District Junior Championships in Lowell, Mass. The rowing club meets every Friday after school in Newtown High’s room B232 from 2:10 -2:40 pm. More information may be found on the on Facebook at NHS Rowing Club.
