Founding Member Christ The King Lutheran Church

Katherine “Kitty” DeCesare, beloved wife of Salvatore C. DeCesare of Newtown, died at her home, May 6, after a long illness. She was born in Windborne, Penn., on January 24, 1927, a daughter of John and Juliann (Seres) Buhan.

 Mrs DeCesare was a resident of Newtown since 1960 and was a founding member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. She was previously active with the Belvederes Color Guard and had sung in the choir for the Hungarian Reformed Church in Bridgeport. From 1963 to 1990 Mrs DeCesare was employed as a district manager for the circulation department of The Post Publishing Company.

She will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker who was totally devoted to her family.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Glenn DeCesare of Sandy Hook and Kurt DeCesare and his wife, Patricia, of Newtown; two daughters, Kathy Kean-Cragin and her husband Brian, of Newtown, and Linda Knox of Torrington; a sister, Barbara Kruidenier and her husband, Ozzie, of Miami Beach; a sister-in-law, Jennie Buhan of Trumbull; nine grandchildren, Karl DeCesare, David Kean, Keri-Ann DeCesare, Kristen DeCesare, Stephen Kean, Justin Knox, Kelsey DeCesare, Tyler Knox, and Corey Knox; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe Knox.

Her brothers, Paul, Daniel, Albert, and Gaza Buhan, and sisters, Marion Jontos, and Irene Kabbai, predeceased Mrs DeCesare.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 13, at 11 am, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Newtown. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, on Monday, May 12, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm.
