Cost to attend the dinner is $50. Cocktails begin at 6 pm and dinner will be served at 7 pm.

On Friday, May 23, the Department of Pediatrics at Danbury Hospital also will host the 10th Annual Child Abuse Prevention Conference from 7:30 am to 4 pm in the John C. Creasy Center for Health Education Auditorium at Danbury Hospital.                                                                                     

Jack Fong, MD, MSc, FAAP, chairman, Danbury Hospital Department of Pediatrics, clinical associate professor, Department of Pediatrics, New York Medical College, and clinical associate professor, Department of Pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine, will open the program.

Topics and speakers include:

*“Fractures in Young Children: When to Worry About Abuse” — John M. Leventhal, MD, professor of pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine

*“Behind the Woodshed: The Balance of Cultural, Societal and Circumstantial Variables in Determining Appropriate Discipline of Children” — Kathleen Casey Jordan, PhD, JD, professor of justice and law administration, Western Connecticut State University

*“Pediatric Burns: When to Suspect Abuse” — Karen M. Buckley, MD, assistant professor of surgery and dermatology, New York Medical College

*“Prevention of Child Abuse: Immunizing Families and Children” — Edward N. Bailey, MD, chairman of pediatrics, North Shore Children’s Hospital

*“Child Molesters: Keeping it all in the Family — Or Not” — Mary E. Muscari, PhD, APRN-BC, CPNP, CFNS, associate professor, Decker School of Nursing, Binghamton University

*“Sudden Infant Deaths & Child Abuse” — Edward McDonaugh, MD, deputy chief medical examiner, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner             

The conference will close with a question and answer session with the faculty.

This program is approved for 6.5 AMA PRA Category I credits and 6.25 CEU contact hours. Because of limited parking on the Danbury Hospital campus, all participants are encouraged to car pool.

Costs to attend the conference are $75 for physicians, $40 for nonphysicians, nurses, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, social workers, etc, and $20 for students on or before May 16. Preregistration required by calling Marjie Szep at 739-7940.
