Women’s Health Awareness Fair

A Women’s Health Awareness Fair will take place from noon to 5 pm on Tuesday, May 20, at Lockwood Lodge, located at 139 Toddy Hill Road adjacent to Ashlar of Newtown.

The event is sponsored by Lockwood Lodge and the Connecticut Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to promote wellness in women. There will be health screenings, physicians, professional speakers, food demonstrations, massages, and other activities.

The program will begin with a presentation by Kim Harrison, a member of the Newtown Lyme Disease Task Force, on “Lyme Disease Prevention and Awareness” from noon to 12:30 pm.

From 12:30 to 1:30 pm, Patrice Hough, manager of the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, will speak on “Breast Cancer: Replace Fear with Facts.”

From 1:30 to 2 pm, chiropractor Della M. Schmidt who will discuss “What You Don’t know About Posture & How It Could Help You Today.”

From 2 to 2:45 pm, registered nurses Shirley Gamble-Cordes and Judy D’Addona will present “Healing Pathways: Demonstrations on Reiki, Acupuncture, Reflexology and Other Therapies.”

From 2:30 to 3:30 pm, Dr John J. McGrade will talk about “To Hormone or Not To Hormone.”

From 3:30 to 4:30 pm, “Breast Cancer Prevention and Detection” will be presented by Nancy Giannini, a registered nurse and certified mastectomy consultant with the Connecticut VNA.

Dentist Robin B. Goldberg will talk about “Healthy White Smiles for Women” from 4:30 to 5 pm.
