The Newtown Youth Lacrosse Senior Boys opened the 2003 season with three convincing wins – a 9-2 decision over Danbury, a 5-0 decision over New Fairfield, and an 11-4 decision over Pomperaug. Goals are coming from everywhere, too, as nine different players have put the ball in the cage.

Here are the recent results:

 

Senior Boys

Newtown 9, Danbury 2 – Erich Dinnan and Ned Emerson scored three times apiece to lead Newtown to the win. Greg Hill, Kyle Shevlin and Zack D’Agostino also scored. Assisting on the goals were Travis Speer and Emerson with two each. Dinnan, Nick Maurer and D’Agostino also assisted. Derrick Flynn, Brian Stickles and Myles Rich sparkled on defense, as did goalie Tyler Bigham, who made 10 saves.

Newtown 5, New Fairfield 0 – Max Beitel scored two goals while Ned Emerson, Travis Speer and Scott Regnery had one goal apiece. Zack D’Agostino, Zack Varga and Regnery provided the assists. Goalie Tyler Bigham recorded the shutout with 14 saves. Ryan Morrissey, Alex Divico and Nick Maurer anchored the defense.

Newtown 11, Pomperaug 4 – Max Beitel, Zack D’Agostino and Erich Dinnan scored two goals apiece to lead Newtown. Kevin Regan, Scott Regnery, Myles Rich, Greg Hill and Ned Emerson also scored. Nick Maurer and Emerson had two assists each as Brian Stickles had one. Kyle Shevlin and Robert Attanasio delivered outstanding offensive support with solid ball movement and jarring picks.

Junior Boys

 

Guilford 9, Hawks 4 – Harrison Gillis scored two goals and Jake Woolf made 11 saves in goal, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a tough Guilford squad. Willie Provey and Jaimie Bowers each scored a goal with Louis Thompson adding an assist. AJ Ritchie, Josh Leighton, and Ryan Murphy combined to grab 14 ground balls at the midfield with Geraint Davies, CJ Spath, and Chris Gregory playing solid defense.

Boys 5th/6th

Newtown 5, Danbury 4 – Mack Fuller scored a pair of goals while Claren Cheung, CJ Donahue and Dulan Kelleher scored one apiece to lead Newtown to the win. Ben Mahony, Andrew Golankiewicz, Devon Wiggers and Judd Baggett had assists. Goaltender Brandon Body made seven saves.

Newtown 7, Brookfield 5 – Mack Fuller scored five times to lead Newtown past Brookfield. Aaron Caldwell and CJ Donahue also scored while Ben Mahony, Ben D’Agostino and Nicholas Landfair had assists. Dylan Huebner and Judd Baggett scooped six groundballs apiece. Michael Hadgraft and Kevin Brown were strong in the midfield.

Girls Gold

Southington 7, Newtown 4 – Carly Filler scored two goals and Lisa Isabella made 11 saves in goal as Newtown lost a close game to Southington. Christie Attanasio and Courtney Gleason also scored with Jennie Iodice, Alicia Johnston, and Emily Fiorey combining to pick up 16 ground balls. Jen O’Connell, Erin Baier, and Stephanie Soder were oustanding on defense.

Girls Blue

 

Newtown 13, Eli 6 – Rachel Maley scored five goals, Moira Collier had three and Christine Ercole had two to lead Newtown to the big win. Nicky Rua-Latte, Erica Vacaro and Erin Ruddock also scored. Jen Greenwood made four saves in the cage. Briana Berg, Lauren Clark and Nicole Dankowski anchored a solid defense.

Newtown 13, New Milford 4 – Hannah Tenenbaum, Moira Collier and Rachel Maley scored three goals apiece to spark Newtown. Dana Schunter, Kristene Salbu, Nicky Rua-Latte and Erica Vacaro also scored. Collier and Tenenbaum recorded three assists apiece. Mandy Nostrand, Jen Greenwood and Erin Ruddock played well on defense while Cathy Urfer and Colleen Thornberg combined to make five saves in goal. Libby Feltch won seven of 10 draws.

Newtown 12, Ridgefield 4 – Nicky Rua-Latte scored four goals while Christina Ercole, Moira Collier and Rachel Maley popped in two goals apiece to lead Newtown. Libby Feltch and Cathy Urfer also scored. Kristene Salbu contributed a pair of assists. Abby Radziminski, Katie McNulty and Emily Oliver had sparkling performances.

Girls 5th/6th

 

Newtown 11, Brookfield 4 – Morgan Schick had five saves in goal and was supported by some great defense played by Lisa Vendel, Nicolle Waterhouse and Michelle Siladi at the point position. Multiple goals were scored by Betsy Vendel (4), Meghan Kelly (2) and Rachel Ruiz (2) with Kaley Kruger, Jackie Isabella and Krystal Perrotti each adding one.
