Insights Into Antique Furnishings
WOODBURY â The Glebe House Museum and the Gertrude Jekyll Garden will be hosting a six-part series, âInsights into Antique Furnishings â Evening with the Experts,â which will begin on Sunday, May 17, at 5:30 pm. Wayne Pratt of Wayne Pratt Antiques will give a lecture titled âThe Principals of Collecting American Furniture and Folk Art.â
The beginner and advanced collector will benefit from this program, which will be held at Wayne Prattâs Antiques gallery, at 346 Main Street South. The lecture will include Mr Prattâs theories on collecting American furnishings. He will examine specific pieces in the gallery and reveal the keys to uncovering the qualities that give pieces of furniture and folk art their value. Following the lecture and light refreshments, Mr Pratt will give a guided tour of the gallery.
Wayne Prattâs interest in antiques began in early childhood. At the age of seven, he bought his first 18th Century Windsor chair and by age 15, he sold his first antique mechanical bank. Today he is one of the countryâs largest dealers of American antique furniture with a retail store on Nantucket Island and the companyâs headquarters in Woodbury. The gallery in Woodbury has over 8,000 square feet of showroom space. The cost for the program is $20 if purchased in advance; at the door, tickets will be $22.
Payments can be mailed to The Glebe House Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden, PO Box 245, Woodbury, CT 06798. Reservations can also be made by calling 203-263-2855.
