The Newtown High School boysâ track and field team didnât expect to have any trouble with Masuk in its South-West Conference tri meet on Monday at Blue & Gold Stadium.
It was the matchup with Joel Barlow, though, that gave the coaching staff some concern.
As it turned out, though, there was nothing to worry about.
With âP.T.â â Peter Terrance â winning three events, Newtown soared past Masuk and Joel Barlow to run its record to 5-3. The 114.5-34.5 win over Masuk wasnât much of a surprise, but the 99-51 win over Joel Barlow was.
Terrance was as dominating as ever, capturing first in the 100 dash, 200 dash and 400 meters. Meanwhile, Tim Carlisle (100 hurdles), Eric Taylor (300 hurdles), Joe Sgammato (triple jump), Evan Forstrom (long jump) and Matt Miller (pole vault) were all solo winners.
Newtown also took first in two of the three relays.
The Nighthawks will battle Bethel, Stratford and New Milford next week (in New Milford) and then finished the regular season on Monday, May 19, at home against Immaculate, Weston and New Fairfield.
The SWC Championship will follow on Tuesday, May 27, in Bethel.
