Art Auction A Success

To the Editor:

The Merryhill children, parents, teachers, and board of directors would like to thank everyone who joined them on Friday, May 2, at the Fireside Inn for their first annual Art Auction.

The evening began at 6:30 pm with a one-hour preview of over 150 pieces of artwork in all media and price ranges. Prior to the auction beginning, Tricia Harrity, president of the board of directors for Merryhill Child Care Center, Inc, honored First Selectman Herb Rosenthal for his longtime support of the center. Mr Rosenthal was presented with a certificate and artwork created for him by the students of Merryhill. The auction began at 7:30 pm.

With almost 100 people in attendance, the bidding became aggressive on several pieces including some artwork created by the center’s children. Everyone had such fun and by the end of the evening, over 60 percent of the artwork pieces were sold.

We would like to thank the following businesses for donating items on their time to our event: Fireside Inn, Crown Theatres, Franco’s Pizza, Mexicali Rose, The Inn at Newtown, Mona Lisa’s Restaurant, Avance Esthetiques, Villarina’s Pasta Shop, Jensen Tire, Auto & Marine, and Ross Consulting LLC.

I would finally like to thank the many parents at Merryhill who donated hot and cold hors d’oeuvres for the evenings buffet. Everything was delicious.

The Art Auction committee worked many long hours to prepare for this event and we could not have done it without you. Thank you to Michelle Kean, director Merryhill Child Care Center; Tricia Harrity, president board of directors; Carla Tischio, board member; Ronnie Jensen, board member; Marina Moscovici, board member; and Lisa Ayr, board member.

Thanks to the generosity of so many we were able to put a significant deposit into our “Buy the Building Fundraiser” account.

Sincerely

The “Fundraising” Committee at Merryhill Child Care Center
