Childrenâs Programs
The Spring Story Hour session will be finishing up in the next couple of weeks and will resume again in the Fall. Registration will take place in August. A summer reading program will be kicking off in June, and is open to children of all ages. More details to come.
Adult Programs
Paintings by Franklin Jones, the award winning artist, teacher, and author, are currently on display at the library through Sunday, May 14. Franklin Jones is highly regarded for his paintings of rural New England and his work has appeared in Yankee magazine, Backpacker, Merrillâs Biology, Michelinâs Travel Guide, as well as numerous sporting journals. The exhibit can be found on the second floor.
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) invites the public to attend their annual art exhibit and reception. The opening reception will take place in the meeting room on Saturday, May 6, from 2-4 pm. Show hours will run through May 14 during regular library hours.
The Flagpole Photographers will be conducting their monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 17, at 7:30 pm in the meeting room. There will be a speaker and the monthly subject will be prints. The public is invited to attend.
The Booth Library Book Discussion Group will be reading 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff on Thursday, May 18, at 7:30 pm in the Special Collections room on the third floor. New members are always welcome. You need not read the entire book to join the discussion. We will be voting on books to be discussed for next year, so come give us some input on the books youâd like to read in the upcoming months.
The movie musical series will be continue on Friday, May 19, at 12:30 pm with On the Town (1949). All movies are free and popcorn is provided.
The Newtown High School will be having an Art Show and Open House beginning on Sunday, May 21. The Open House is scheduled from 2-4 pm. The high school artists will then be exhibiting their work at the library through May 27 during regular library hours.
Bob Brand will be teaching a course for the beginning Internet user on Saturday, May 20, from 10 am- noon in the meeting room. The class is free but you do need to register at the circulation desk or by calling the library at 426-4533. An Intermediate Internet class will be offered on May 27 from 10- noon in the meeting room. There is a $10 fee for this course and you will need to register at the main circulation desk for this course as well.
Joan Bouchard, CLU, ChFC, will be conducting a workshop on Longterm Care on Thursday, May 25, from 6-8 pm in the meeting room. The program is free but you do need to register by calling 203/797-1203 to reserve your place and workbook.
