The MTM Issue Continues
The MTM Issue Continues
To the Editor:
I was at the Board of Education meeting on May 5 where they were going to vote on whether to keep MTM or change to All Star. Again taxpayers of Newtown voiced their opinions about keeping MTM; it was all positive. It all comes down to the safety of our special needs children and not money, money, money. MTM is willing to match All Starâs bid. So it should be a given. If it is not broke, donât fix it.
Three Board of Education members are for MTM and three are for All Star. One Board of Education member is not able to attend the meeting. She canât cast a vote by not being there. This is the second meeting there has been a tie on April 30 and once on May 5. Since there was a tie, one Board of Education member said to have the superintendent of schools or the director of transportation vote to break the tie. Taxpayers said No they should not vote on this issue because they are not Newtown residents and not on the Board of Education.
Now they are having another meeting on May 19 to vote again. All parents need to attend to keep MTM for the special needs children. If you have children in the Newtown schools you need to attend this meeting. They need all the support from all Newtown residents also.
