On The Pitch — Soccer Highlights

Girls

U6

Wildcats 6, Mustangs 2: The Wildcats were powered on offense by Colleen Phaneuf who scored three goals, and Kaley Meisenheimer, Carlie Smith and Julia Klein with one goal apiece. Defensively, the Wildcats were led by Shannon Jackman and Morgan Seras. The Mustangs were led by Karsen Pirone who had two goals. Hannah Groonell and Katherine Dirga controlled the midfield. Olivia Grant played great in goal with several saves while Justine Rengilian and Jillian Carrino led the defense.

U8

Thundering Jaguars 5, Monkees 0: For the Monkees: Sophia Andrew and Brooke Antous were solid goaltenders. Nicole Keeping hustled throughout the game. Alexis Mason scored four goals and Lindsay Merrifield added one for the T-Jags. Audrey Sedensky played great defense, while Eirenie Athanasoulis and Erin Walsh had good overall games.

Shooting Stars 1, Lightning 0: For the Shooting Stars, Janyce Toth scored the winning goal. Lizzie Weisgerber played exceptionally well defending the goal. Simone Paradis played well offensively as well as defensively. For the Lightning, Maddie Zipperstein and Jenna Gonski controlled the offense while Allie Paynter and Danielle Otero were tough on defense.

Shooting Stars 5, Desserts 1: Simone Paradis scored twice and Jackie Seras, Katie Sailer and Elizabeth Weisgerber each had a goal in the win. Natalie Kelchner scored the lone Dessert goal. Nahdi Bropleh, Isabella Manfredi and Elisabeth Salley all played well for the Desserts.

Dynamites 5, Lightning 0: For the Dynamites, goals were scored by Jackie Matthews, Sarah Houle, Savannah Mather and Maddie Carter. For the Lightning, Julianna Russo and Katie Peterson led the attack with Jenna Ehnot and Sara Tressler playing tough defense.

Soccer Stars 5, Wolverines 0: The Wolverines were led by Kayse Fisher and Hana Rosenthal on offense, Emma DaSilva on Defense and goalkeeper Madeline Ceci. The Soccer Stars were led by scorers Rebecca Gavel, Maggie Beardsley, Kristin Cirone and Keeley and Cassidy Kortze. Lin Vitarbo anchored the team in goal.

American Eagles 2, Fighting Irish 2: Grace Sholtes and Olivia Hage scored for the American Eagles on assists from Lauren Carrino and Riley Mulligan. Kira Smith and Emily Winch played superb all-around games and Rachel Tomasino preserved the tie with several sparkling saves in goal. For the Fighting Irish, Jenna Lavelle scored both goals. Priya Deraney and Vanessa Tucker were great on defense and Carli Carpenter was a force on offense.

U10

Sharpshooters 2, Killer Tigers 1: The Sharpshooters were led by Mia Katsuleres and Lauren Russo, each of whom scored, and Samantha Crespo who had an assist. The midfielders and defense were strong behind the play of Christina Cistulli, Emily Montoya and Brianna Lutz. The goalies, Brianna Alves and Elizabeth Delp put together a solid game. The Killer Tigers were powered by the outstanding defensive efforts of Grace Frost in goal and Kala Kordish, while Emily Neave scored the lone goal and Rachael Dicristina turned up the heat offensively.

Lightning Bolts 4, Funky Monkeys, 3: In the win, goals were scored by Marina Renzi (2), Katerina Ringes and Allie Indelicato. Juliet Grover and Kiera Vielliette anchored the defense. For the Funky Monkeys, Lauren Cirone scored to tie the game in the first half. Grace Svensen, and Hailey Conrad scored in the second half of the game, keeping the Lightning Bolts in the game. Sinead Flanagan and Melissa Shohet put forth great efforts in goal.

Purple Penguins 3, Mustangs 0: For the Purple Penguins, Stefanie Carr scored two goals and Anna Biondi added a goal to lead the offense. Jessica Maturo played well at midfield while Katherine Elkins played a great overall game. Amanda Donovan was strong in goal to secure the win. For the Mustangs, Jillian Pieretti and Danielle Scarpa put forth a tremendous amount of hustle throughout the game. Sarah MacMullan displayed great footwork.

U11

Newtown Comets 4, Wilton 3: Kimberly Brello had 3 assists in the win, Mikayla Kuligowski contributed 2 goals, Quinn Karp added a goal and Alana Murray scored the winning tally. Casey Harkins and Madeline Sieber added assists as well. Brenna Kelly provided strong defensive support with Emily Charash and Alyssa Ruefenacht sharing time in goal.

U12

Lightning 1, Wallingford 0 (State Cup game):  The only goal came shortly after kickoff, when Newtown earned a penalty kick off a push by Wallingford in the box. Megan Meyer shot a bullet into the right corner of the net. Kailee Dunnigan showed smart play and good moves on offense throughout the game. Emily Riley and Shelby Tolla were strong for the Lightning in the midfield and Kate Fallon performed well in the nets.

Lightning 4, Stamford 4: Sarah Lynch and Emily Riley had two goals apiece and Lynch and Amy Martinelli notched assists. Kate Fallon and Raquel Crespo put in good efforts in goal. Megan Weber helped support the offense and Michelle Zarifis displayed impressive hustle on defense and in the midfield.

U14

Tidal Waves 4, Cyclones 4: For the Tidal Waves, a goal was scored by Jamie Duncan with an assist by Vicki Madden. Meghan Grimes also scored a goal, while Emily Grimes had two. The team got great goalkeeping by Jesse Sailer and solid defense by Renee Henriquez. For the Cyclones, Emily Albrecht scored two goals with an assist by Jessie Principi, who played a great game and also scored. Eliza Eggleston also scored. Courtney Datin had a great second half in goal with a penalty shot save to keep the Cyclones in the game. Catherine McHugh had a great performance on defense.

Madison 4, Flash 0 (CT Cup game): The Flash played with full effort until the end with a header by Bianca Solano, a hard drive by Kiely Kuligowski and intense play by Maria Bondi among the highlights. Valiant efforts were displayed by Abby Blakeman, Julliana Ciamarra and Stephanie Roman.

Twisters 5, Team Two 2: For the Twisters, Kat Jennings scored two goals and Caitlin Filiato, Aofie Flanagan and Andrea Rodriguez all scored. Tonya Tucker and Bonnie Buchetto played well on defense. Megan Milano and Samantha Dion scored for Team Two. Anna Buzzanca and Bailey Smith played excellent defense and Madigan Christie had a good game.

Smiters 4, Earthquake 3: After two early goals by Rachel Karnoff and one by Carly Grossano, the Earthquake came storming back to tie the game on goals by Cate Haggerty, Christina Badiola and Sydney Allen. Tight defense was played by Makenzie Casey with strong midfield play by Catherine Neave. A goal off the post by Sarah Hasselberger sealed the victory.

Boys

U6

Red Bulls 3, Fireballs 0: For the Fireballs, Justin Engler and Jonathan Liberante were strong on offense, Sawyer Findley was tremendous in goal and Kyle Griffin played well on defense. For the Red Bulls, Devon O’Connell, Stephan Dooley and Duncan O’Leary each scored goals, while Shilin Ray and Aidan Stout played strong defense.

Huskies 5, Lightning-Thunder 1: The Huskies were led by the scoring of Attila Sempkin (3) and Harry Kelchner and Kevin Gong. The Lightning-Thunder was led by Ryan Kovatch with his first goal of the season. Mack Berry and Brayden Deraney worked hard on defense.

U8

Hawks 1, Firekickers 0: For the Hawks: Bobby Elston, Rick Irving and John Albanesi had a good day on offense, with Albanesi scoring the lone goal. Alex Delp provided good support on defense. Matthew Blanco was a busy goalkeeper in the fourth quarter. For the Firekickers, Reed Hammond and Tyler Dickinson had a solid day on offense. Adam Bowditch had a great day on defense while Jack Buchler was on top of his game in goal.

U10

Chihuahuas 7, Spider Pigs 5: Nathan Augenbraun scored four goals, and Dylan Kretz, Kevin Finnegan, and Dylan Solano each scored in the win. Justin Cicarelli and Dylan Kretz were strong in goal. Andrew Lee, Kevin Finnegan and Nathan Williams had assists. Dylan Solano, Joshua Becker, Justin Cicarelli and Harry Eppers played tough defense. The Spider Pigs got an early goal from Sam Grossano (who added another goal and two assists).  Connor Flint also played strong offense with two goals and Eugene Citrano scored. Ryan Brello had two assists. Owen Samson had an assist and Brian Kerins played well. The Spider Pigs defense played well with Chris Buckley and CJ Shambelan in goal and Jack Lavelle, Bryan Morrissey, Christopher Russo and Owen Walsh fighting hard against the Chihuahua’s attacks. CJ Shambelan blocked six shots in the first half.

U14

Beast of the East 3, ManU 2: For the Beast of the East, Tyler Coleman scored two goals, Ryan Moyer scored and Bradley Kretz played great on defense. For ManU, Gavin Scallon had two goals with one assist from Brandon Marks. Omar Rodriguez and Joseph Stromsky played hard on defense and Alister Sore played well in goal.

Italian Stallions 3, The Oskars 1: Will Carr, Evan Swain and Tim Kelly each scored to lead the offense for the Italian Stallions. Ricky Fuentes and Josh Tuffy played great overall in the midfield. Adam Hufziger scored the lone goal for The Oskars. Dan Olszewski and Fredrik Dean had strong games, both in goal and on the offense, and Travis Hanna and Josh Harrison played well at midfield.

Cobras 5, Portland 0 (CT Cup game): Pieter Martino scored and had assists on goals by Patrick Riccardi and Alec Lockhart. Noah Sock scored on a corner from Stephen Conway and Nick Gerbo scored on a cross from Kieran Lardner. Defensively, Sam Langdon and Yossi Kohrman-Glaser stifled the Portland offense. Colin Moller and Tyler Ruefenacht were aggressive and set up many offensive plays from the midfield.

Cobras 2, Bridgeport 2: Patrick Riccardi scored two goals, one on a cross from Kieran Lardner. Pieter Martino, Ian Solaski and Stephen Conway all had shots on goal. Defensively, Sean Elliott led the team with several nice saves. Sam Langdon, Robert Willis, Alec Lockhart and Matt Rahtelli fought off the opposing offense with numerous tackles. Nick Gerbo, Colin Moller and Francis Saraceni had strong efforts in the midfield.
