James J. Minck, Sr, 82, previously of Brookfield, died May 4. Mr Minck was born the son of Albert and Lucy (Carmody) Minck in Danbury, September 8, 1926.
Mr Minck is survived by a brother, Albert Minck of Newtown; a daughter; a son; two granddaughters; a sister; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr Minck served with the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He established Minckâs Gas Station and Auto Sales on South Street in Danbury in 1948, where he worked until his retirement in 2000.
Mr Minck served as a member with the Catholic War Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, Danbury Moose Lodge, Mooseheart Charities, Citizens Hose Volunteer Fire Department, and was past Exalted Ruler with the Danbury Elks Lodge. He was honored by President George W. Bush as a Red Cross National Volunteer of the Year. A member of St Josephâs School and Parish in Brookfield, he coached Boys JV and Varsity basketball teams.
Calling hours were scheduled at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, Thursday, May 7, from 5 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St Peter Church in Danbury, Friday, May 8, at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
