About 1:45 pm May 6, motorist Noel Nieves, 54, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Express van, was waiting at a red traffic signal on southbound South Main Street at its intersection with Meadowbrook Road, police report.

Southbound motorist Esmeraldo Alves Filho, 44, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Honda CRV, stopped and was waiting behind the Chevrolet, police said.

At that time, a tractor-trailer truck was making a left turn from eastbound Meadowbrook Road onto northbound South Main Street, so Nieves backed up the Chevrolet to give the trucker more space to make the turn, police said.

But in backing up, the Chevrolet backed into the front end of the Honda, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said Nieves performed unsafe backing. Also, police charged Nieves with driving while under suspension. Nieves posted $50 bail for a May 20 court appearance.
