Birds And Botany Abound At Flanders

WOODBURY — If plants, flowers and ferns are your passion, then the award-winning botany trail at Flanders Nature Center is the place to be. The public is invited to join an experienced and knowledgeable botanist for a leisurely guided walk along the trail at this most lovely time of year.

Winding through woodlands, wildflower meadows, Christmas tree groves and ponds, the botany trail is lovingly tended throughout the year by volunteers from the Pomperaug Valley Garden Club.

Interpretive trail walks will be held on two Sunday afternoons, May 14 and May 21, at 1 pm, at the Van Vleck Farm Sanctuary at Flanders Nature Center. Meet at the Trail House parking lot on Church Hill Road (off Flanders Road).

Flanders will also offer bird walks throughout May, in conjunction with the Western CT Bird Club. Each Sunday morning at 7:30, bird lovers old and new can join experienced guides for a walk through field and forest to enjoy the sights and sounds of birds returning to Flanders for the season. Meet at the Trail House parking lot for these programs as well.

All programs are open to everyone and are free of charge. For additional information, call Flanders at 203/263-3711.
