Due to last weekend’s weather, Newtown Hikers has rescheduled a hike in Kent.

The planned hike at Bulls Covered Bridge & Trail, to begin from 248 Bulls Bridge Road in Kent, has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 20.

The hike originally scheduled for that day, at Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown, has been canceled, according to Schedule Coordinator Linda Dunn.

Newtown Hikers is an open group welcoming anyone interested in hiking. There is no membership fee.

Hikers participate at their own risk and are asked by Newtown Parks & Recreation to sign a release at their first hike.

It is recommended that participants wear hiking boots and use hiking poles, and carry water, snack, and tick spray.

Children are welcome with an adult and need to be able to keep up with group pace. Dogs are welcome on leash at most locations.

Spring hikes begin at 9:30 am from each location’s trail head. Hikers are requested to register with the hiking leader if they plan to hike.

The current season continues to June 10. The group will be staying in its backyard next weekend, exploring a trail within Upper Paugussett State Park on May 13 The updated hike in Kent is the following weekend, on May 20. Snow, rain, and cloudy conditions do not usually prevent Newtown Hikers from doing their thing. Such was the case during a visit to Webb Mountain in Monroe on April 22. It was a hike with many inclines, declines, and views to enjoy. —photo courtesy Linda Dunn
