Sally Pelletier
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Sally Pelletier, 86, of Newtown. Sally passed peacefully at her home at Nunnawauk Meadows on January 22, 2021, under the loving care of her children.
Sally was born, raised, and schooled in Seattle, Washington. She was born the only child of Harold and Virginia (Smith) Kitchen. At the age of 10, she lost her mother. She spent most summers in California with her father’s sister Betty and her husband, Jack Jacquelin.
After graduating high school, she attended the University of Washington in Seattle where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Kenneth Pelletier, of Newtown.
After college, Ken joined the United States Air Force as a pilot and they were married. It was during this time they began their family, as they traveled the country. Sally loved the years spent while in the service.
After completing their time in the service, they settled back in Newtown, Ken’s hometown. Ken joined the family business, Pelletier and Associates, and in later years he became its president.
Sally dedicated herself to her family and home. She was very close to her in-laws, Louis and Anna Pelletier, of Newtown. She often spoke of them as her second parents.
She loved to travel with the business and spending summers at the family’s second home in Pubnico, Nova Scotia, Canada. Many memories where made up in Pubnico with family and dear friends.
Upon retirement, she and Ken lived in several areas locally — Newtown, Southbury, Merryall in New Milford — before their last home at Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown’s independent senior housing. Sally loved and appreciated the friendships she developed with her neighbors there.
Sally is survived by her children, Stephen Fostor Pelletier of New Milford, Luann Sullivan of Newtown, and Michele Pelletier (Fred Potenziani) of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; as well as her grandchildren, Nicole and Alexandra Pelletier (Steve Alves), Sean Sullivan, Caitlin Sullivan Campbell, and Marliegh Sullivan (Ross Blair), Taylor and Matthew Potenziani. Let’s not miss our the great-grands, Nicole’s daughter, Raeanne, and Caitlin’s son, Connor.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth F. Pelletier; her parents, Harold and Virginia (Smith) Kitchen; her Aunt Betty and Uncle Jack Jacquelin; her in-laws, Louis and Anna Pelletier; her sister-in-law, Joan Swedlund; Ken’s brother, Alan Gibson Pelletier, who passed away in his infancy; as well as a grandson, Breydan (Nicole).
A private gathering of family will be planned for later this year to celebrate her life. Interment will be in the Village Cemetery, Newtown, Conn.
Any memorial contributions would be appreciated addressed to Newtown Volunteer Ambulance, 6 Washington Square, Newtown CT 06470.
