Dancing and a buffet dinner await senior citizens who are all invited to Some Enchanted Evening, a senior citizen prom on Friday, May 20, from 4 to 8 pm, in the Newtown High School cafetorium. Dress is semiformal.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through May 13 at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook; or the Parks & Recreation office, on the lower level of Town Hall South, 3 Main Street.

Senior Center Director Marilyn Place and Parks and Recreation Director Amy Mangold, along with other partners in the community, have worked together to offer this event to senior citizens. Also collaborating on the the event is Ben's Lighthouse, Newtown Youth & Family Services, and NHS Fusion.

"We have been trying to focus on the growing senior population and wanted to work with the Newtown Senior Center and try to help with an activity that they had in mind," Ms Mangold said. Aware that Ms Place had wanted a senior prom, she said, "We collaborated."

Ms Place said she is trying to get all seniors involved.

"I think it's a great idea," she said. "We all enjoyed our prom, didn't we?"

An evening of dancing and mingling will be among the highlights of Newtown's first senior citizen prom. A buffet dinner will be served. Available that night will be a photo booth, dancing, dessert, free 5x7 photos, and the selection of a prom king and queen.

Contact the Parks & Rec office at 203-426-4340 or the Senior Center at 203-426-4310 for more information.
