Relay Takes On New Meaning
Relay Takes On New Meaning
To the Editor:
I have walked and supported many people in Relay For Life in the past. Lots of my family have had, and passed on because of, cancer, in my husbandâs family and mine. I never thought for one minute, it could be me. Well on February 2, it was me.
Now walking and being on a team for Relay For Life has a new meaning. Many folks that have walked, supported, and raised money to [support] the knowledge and all the new equipment and the skills that God has given the doctors, which have taken on a different meaning. So this year, Richard Merrill and I have joined the NUMC [Newtown United Methodist Church] Angels to help raise and promote awareness about this dreaded disease.
At our home at 86 The Boulevard, we have placed a container outside our fence asking for donations of your returnables (cans and bottles) so we may redeem those and donate the money to our team. The response has been wonderful and I have talked to several folks that are so generous to donate their returnables.
I want to say thank you to everyone. To our church members, our faith in God, family, extended family, employees at Danbury Hospital, coffee shop, our TOPS group, and our many friends; the volunteers in the ambulance group, the emergency room personnel, nurses, doctors⦠the list goes way beyond our expectations. Thanks to the folks in the past who have raised money to help folks like me so I can now do my part.
I will be walking the Relay on June 5, at Fairfield Hills, so I ask all of you reading this for your donations; the donations do not have to be a lot, each bit helps someone. I appreciate each of you and thanks from my heart.
Sincerely
Betty Presnell
