In conjunction with the release of the United States Postal Service Adopt-A-Shelter Pet awareness stamp, Friday, April 30, Hawleyville Postmaster Mark Favale has announced several related events taking place at the newly relocated office at 23 Barnabas Road.
The Animal Concerns Club from Newtown High School is sponsoring a Favorite Pet Photo Contest now through May 22. Drop off a photograph of your pet at the Hawleyville Post Office during regular hours. Members of the high school club will select a winner on May 22, to be awarded a gift basket.
The Hawleyville Post Office is also the drop-off site through May 22 for pet food and pet toys that will be donated to the Animal Center of Newtown and the Newtown Canine Advocates. Dry and canned food donations for cats and dogs are welcome.
The monthlong celebration of adoptable pets will culminate with a visit from North Shore Animal League of America Pet Mobile Van, Saturday, May 22, from 9 am to noon, said Postmaster Favale.
The Animal Rescue: Adopt-A-Shelter Pet stamp is part of the postal servicesâ long-term commitment to raising awareness of important social issues. This commemorative stamp raises awareness of the importance of adopting companion animals from shelters to help prevent the senseless euthanizing of millions of animals every year.
