Help Stamp Out Hunger

To the Editor:

This Saturday, May 8, is the annual US Postal Workers Food Drive “Stamp Out Hunger.”

Please be a part of this important event by placing your nonperishable food donations by your mailbox early on Saturday morning. Your letter carrier or a volunteer driver will pick up the donations...it’s so easy! Just be sure to check expiration dates so that you are not donating, and we are not sorting, expired products.

The Social Services Salvation Army Food Pantry, located in the back of the Newtown Police Station, serves many families each and every day. Your consideration and generosity will help restore depleted supplies and restock the shelves for the summer months.

For a family in need, the summer is a time when school lunches are not available to bridge the gap between meals, nor are they available to serve as the one meal that a child may eat on any given day. For others, whose paychecks may not adequately cover all of their expenses, or for those who are out of work or not able to work, the food pantry is a blessing as well.

I am confident that Newtown will be generous again this year...thank you!
