Bantam Girls

Newtown 7, New Milford 2: Liz Hodge and Rachel Tomasino combined for 6 saves in goal. Hayley Lambert and Olivia Hage were strong on attack. Lexi Leidlien and Haley Harkins anchored the defense. Goals were scored by Dylan Zahansky, Caroline Condon, Lambert, Harkins, Lauren Carrino, and Rylee Mulligan.

 

New Milford Jamboree

Newtown got off to a great start with an 8-7 victory over Ridgefield. Brooke Varnum and Cassidy Kortze played great all around games and Rylee Mulligan had an impressive offensive showing. Alexa Leidlein also played a great game in goal.

Newtown continued its streak against New Fairfield with a 6-3 victory. Kira Smith and Caroline Condon were fierce on both sides of the field and Haley Harkins managed to keep the offense on the attack. In goal, Hayley Lambert kept the goals to a minimum.

In the third game, against Brookfield, Newtown pulled off an 8-5 victory. Olivia Hage and Lauren Carrino kept the ball moving on offense and Danielle Samson was solid on defense. Goalie Alex Futterman played well.

Newtown closed out the day with a 7-4 win over Redding/ Easton. Elizabeth Hodge had a great all  around game with Rachel Tomasino and Danielle Powell playing great defense. Dylan Zahansky managed several saves as the goalie and had a handful of goals on offense in the first three games of the day.

Junior Blue Travel

Greenwich 12, Newtown 10: Olivia Holman and Katie Mossbarger combined for 7 saves in goal. Lyllie McBride and Madison Ventresca led the attack and Julia Sughrue and Jillian DiMartino scooped up 4 ground balls. Brianna Sclafani and Alana O’Donnell were strong at midfield. Meghan Doyle and Liz Cain anchored the defense. Goals were scored by Sclafani, Katie Capelli, Lauren Zimmerman, Hannah Bellagamba, Claudia Morris and O’Donnell.

Junior Girls

The Newtown Junior girls played in the Simsbury Stickfest this past weekend. This was a very competitive event featuring teams from all over New England. 

The Newtown Junior B team went 1-2, winning a Braveheart tiebreaker with Ridgefield to end the day on a high note. Against Simbsury, Dori Farley made 3 saves in goal. Madison Duffy and Chloe Amonte each scooped up 2 ground balls and Emma Horne and Quinn Karp anchored the defense. Goals were scored by Lindsey Hoyt and Alana O’Donnell. Against Farmington Olivia Holman made 4 saves in goal. Sarah Frascatore and Sarah O’Rourke were strong on attack. Liz Zambernardi and Liz Cain anchored the defense. In the final game Juila Sughrue made 4 saves in goal. Nicole Frascatore and Madison Ventresca scooped up 3 ground balls and Juliana Patelli and Grace Sandercox were aggressive on defense. Peyton Cutolo and Emily Bell led the offensive attack. Goals were scored by Lindsey Hoyt and Bell. In a special tie-breaker called a Braveheart, Hoyt battled an aggressive opponent to win the ball and score for the victory.

The Newtown Junior A team went 2-2, making to the semifinals of the tournament with both loses coming via Brave heart tiebreakers. The defense and goaltending was outstanding, giving up only 7 goals during 4 games, and was led by Bridget Walsh who had 10 saves. Limiting the opposing team shooting opportunities was the defense led by Celia Gold, Katie Mossbarger, Charlotte Stenz, Jillian DiMartino, Tessa Leon-Gambetta, and Hannah Bellagamba. The midfielders who hustled from one end of the field to the other all day in the heat were led by Nevan Gattey (6 ground balls), Brittany Meisenheimer (5 Ground balls), Brianna Sclafani, Nikki Zaccaro, Michaela Hall, Julia Wiberg, and Claudia Morris. The offensive attack was led by Lauren Zimmerman, Cam Morris, Christina Caporale, Maddie Bridges, and Katie Cappelli.

Senior Blue

Brookfield Seven 10, Newtown 3: Haley Trudell led Newtown in ground balls on the grass field, and Karly Gregorio and Eliza Eggleston also scooped grounders. Eliza Eggleston also helped out in the midfield by controlling the ball off the draw. Goalie Lexi Samuels had several saves.

New Milford Jamboree

Brookfield Eight 5, Newtown 2: Eliza Eggleston helped out in the midfield by collecting the most ground balls for the team, and scoring along with Noelle Benson. Samuels made some great saves.

New Fairfield 9, Newtown 1: Haley Trudell, Eliza Eggleston and Emily Campbell helped out in the midfield to slow the Rebels down. Julia Diluoffo was the only scorer for Newtown.

New Milford 3, Newtown 2: Haley Dunn led the midfield in ground balls, and Julia Diluoffo led the offense with the goals. Patricia Sullivan and Marybeth Semosky helped out on defense to protect Samuels in goal.

Litchfield 5, Newtown 3: Newtown lost its last game in the New Milford Jamboree to Litchfield. Attack was led by Kat Jennings. Julia Diluoffo and Eliza Eggleston helped out on attack and midfield. Defense was led by Haley Trudell, and Emily Campbell.
