GALLERY 440 ROSALYN ENGELMAN

ak/gs set 5/7 #738640

NEW YORK CITY — Anthony DeLorenzo presents an exhibition of paintings by the abstract artist Rosalyn Engelman at his Gallery 440. The exhibition will run through June 6.

The 22 paintings and works on paper form a retrospective highlighting the various themes of Engelman’s art from 1980 to 2007. Included are several works from her black on black “Nocturne” series. The exhibition also features recent works in white on white, red, and black and white in which Engelman employs her masterful, layered calligraphic brushwork.

Born and raised in the Catskills and in the Bronx, N.Y., Engelman graduated from the City College of New York as an art major, and earned her master’s degree in Asian and Japanese art at the University of Rochester. Her work has been shown in solo gallery and museum exhibitions at the Mishkin Gallery, Baruch College, N.Y., and the Queensborough Community College Art Gallery, among others.

Engelman’s paintings hang in private and public collections that include the Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christie, the War Tribunal Court in The Hague, at the New School and in the president’s office at the City College of New York.

Engelman exhibited at the “Biennale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea” in Florence, Italy, and in January 2009 she will be honored with a solo show in the Grand Gallery of the historic National Arts Club in Gramercy Park.

“Paintings by Rosalyn Engelman” at Gallery 440 is running concurrently with “Dry Tears,” the artist’s mixed-media exhibition at the Hebrew Union Institute of Religion Museum.

Gallery 440 is at 440 Lafayette Street. For information, www.gallery440.com or 212-979-5800.
