Losing The Litter
Losing The Litter
To the Editor:
We had good weather on Lose the Litter Day to give Newtownâs roads a spring cleaning.
As usual, there were so many people and groups involved that a complete listing is impossible. The Borough let us raise the banner along Queen Street. Fred Hurley and the Highway Department provided the gloves and bags for the volunteers and let us leave the bagged trash at the Highway Department garage. The Board of Education allowed us to use the middle school property. The Newtown Bee helped make everyone aware of the event. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Brownies all did their part, including members of Girl Scout Troops 766 and 749, Cub Scout Pack 170, and Brownie Troop 239. My fellow Lions made the event possible by cleaning up roads and performing the countless small tasks that needed to be done.
The bulk of the work, however, was done by individuals, young and old, who pitched in to clean their own corners of town.
Many participants suggested that Lose the Litter Day should take place more often. I agree. Wouldnât it be nice if we all took a little time to lose the litter every day?
Thanks again to all the people who turned out to help this year.
Sincerely,
Jerome A. Mayer
