Library Is Offering Creative
Writing Summer Camp
This summer, youth entering grades 6-9 are invited to express themselves at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown, during a Young Adult Creative Writing Camp. There is no charge for the program.
Joan Verniero, a local author and educator, will host the camp, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm in the program designed to foster the love of reading and writing. Adults from the libraryâs ongoing creative writing groups will be trained as volunteer assistants and facilitators.
The camp will meet on Thursdays, July 1, 8, 15 and 29 and August 5. Students going into grades 6 and 7 in the fall will meet from 10 am until noon, and students entering grades 8 and 9 will meet from 2 to 4 pm.
Professional mime Robert Rivest, who trained with Marcel Marceau, will perform his program âLiteracy Alive!â at 7 pm on Thursday, July 22. He presents plot, setting, character, comedy and drama in a fun and educational way that fits right in with the camp themes. Camp will not meet that day, but this energetic and creative program is perfect for families and people of all ages.Â
