DUI Charge

Police report that on the night of April 29, they stopped motorist Gina Ahearn, 37, of 25 Underhill Road for driving erratically on Church Hill Road. Police added that they gave Ahearn field sobriety tests, after which they charged her with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

After processing the case, police released Ahearn on $50 bail for a May 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Hawleyville Crash

Motorist Thomas Treuer, 51, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2002 Honda Accord southward on Hawleyville Road about 7:11 am April 29, was attempting to make a left turn into the parking lot of Hawleyville Deli, when the Honda collided with a northbound 2001 Toyota driven by Ilene Waxman, 57, of Cheshire, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Treuer a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Four-Vehicle Accident

A four-vehicle accident occurred near 5 Queen Street about 5 pm April 28.

Police said northbound motorist David Jurman, 45, of 21 Pebble Road, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck, drove into the rear end of a 2001 Dodge Ram van driven by Theodore Dobosz, 52, of Bethel. That impact pushed the van into the rear end of a 1997 Honda Accord driven by Kristina Halili, 39, of 118 Glen Road, police said. That impact pushed the Honda into the rear end of yet another unidentified vehicle, which left the accident scene before police arrived, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Jurman a written warning for following too closely.

Warrant

After learning on April 29 that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jonathan Lambo, 19, of 8 Country Squire Road turned himself over to police and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with littering. The littering charge stems from a 2003 incident, according to police.

Police released Lambo on $225 bail for a May 13 court appearance.

Shell Station

Police report they responded to the Shell gas station at 65 Church Hill Road on April 29 following a complaint. Police said they charged Paula King, 41, of 23 Surrey Trail with leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle, after King allegedly left a 7-year-old girl unattended in a vehicle for about 20 minutes.

In the process of being charged, King resisted and was additionally charged with interfering with police and with breach of peace, police said.

King was released on $1,000 bail for a May 18 court appearance, police said.

Teen Center Theft

A band performed at the Newtown Teen Center at 51 Church Hill Road on the night of May 1. The band then stored its equipment in a back room at the center, police said. A musician in the band reported to police that someone stole equipment including his amplifier. The stolen items are valued at $1,600, representing third degree larceny, which is a felony. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 426-5841.

Rearrest Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jason Visokay, 25, of Southbury turned himself over on April 30 and was charged with second degree failure to appear in court, evading responsibility, and failure to drive to the right. Police released Visokay on $2,500 bail for a May 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Police said the motor vehicle charges stem from an accident that occurred last December 25 at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps of Interstate 84.

In that accident, motorist Gregory McMahon, 55, of West Hartford, who was driving a 1998 Ford Taurus, was stopped at a red traffic signal on westbound Wasserman Way and was waiting to turn left onto the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84, when Visokay, who was driving a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, made a wide right turn off the Exit 11 off-ramp and struck the Ford.

Wood Off Ford

Police report that motorist James Morris, 53, of 92 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 1988 Ford northward on South Main Street about 8:15 am April 28, had cargo attached to a roof rack on the Ford.

A piece of wood fell off the roof rack and struck the windshield and hood of a 2002 Mitsubishi sedan driven by Stephanie Lewis, 20, of Danbury, police said. The Mitsubishi was traveling northward behind the Ford.

There were no injuries. Police issued Morris a written warning for traveling with an unsecured load.

Mirror-To-Mirror

Motorist Barbara Presnell, 62, of 5 Carol Ann Drive, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward on South Main Street at about 4:30 pm April 30, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn into the driveway at 99 South Main Street, when a older light blue van passed the Ford on the right, resulting in the two vehicles’ side-view mirrors colliding, police said. The van kept traveling. There were no injuries. Police are investigating.

Mile Hill Mishap

Police report an accident between an auto and a truck about 2:15 pm on April 29 on Mile Hill Road. There were no injuries.

The collision involved Erin Beckman, 18, of 10 Sugar Hill Road, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Sentra, and Gary A. Quinn, Jr, 40, of Vernon, who was driving a 1995 Kenworth truck, police said.

Police issued Beckman a written warning for passing on the right. Police gave Quinn a written warning for failure to make a turn signal.

 

South Main Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road about 8:40 pm April 29, police said.

The accident involved Daryl Fitzgerald, 33, of 10 Bonnie Brae Drive, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, and Kileen Barry, 17, of 8 Wedgewood Court, who was driving a 1993 Volvo 850, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Fitzgerald an infraction ticket for failure to obey a stop sign.

Audi Vs Ford

Motorist Darla Kraft, 42, of 32 Yogananda Street, who was driving a 2000 Audi A-6, was involved in an accident with motorist Daniel Pister, 18, of 12 Echo Valley Road, who was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, police said.

The collision occurred about 2:25 pm April 28 at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Queen Street. There were no injuries. Police issued Kraft a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

South Main DUI

Police said they observed motorist Laura Stefanec, 35, of Hamden swerving while traveling southward on South Main Street early on the morning of May 1. Police said they pulled over Stefanec near Pecks Lane to investigate and charged her with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After processing the arrest, police released Stefanec on $50 bail for a May 18 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 12:30 am on May 4, they received calls from drivers alerting them that a northbound pickup truck, without its headlights on, was traveling erratically on South Main Street, near Sand Hill Plaza.

Police said they intercepted the pickup truck near Mile Hill Road and spotted it traveling northward in the southbound lane of South Main Street. Police then stopped the vehicle near Borough Lane to investigate.

The driver of truck, Frank J. Carbone, 64, of Southbury refused to obey instructions and resisted being arrested, police said.

Carbone was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and interfering with police. After posting $100 bail, police released Carbone for a May 18 court appearance.

Church Hill Crash

Motorist Jeffrey Jorgenson, 34, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1999 GMC Yukon sport-utility vehicle eastward on Church Hill Road about 3:45 pm April 26, stopped for traffic near 30 Church Hill Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist John F. Williams, 61, of 12 Apple Blossom Lane, who was driving a 1997 Plymouth Voyager minivan, then struck the GMC from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Williams an infraction ticket for traveling at an unsafe distance.

Boggs Hill DUI

Police said they saw motorist Sean Surat, 18, of 25 Boggs Hill Road driving a blue 1992 Subaru Royale station wagon with a flat right front tire on Boggs Hill Road early on the morning of May 6.

Police said that the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that had been reported to be traveling erratically on Queen Street. Police said they stopped the auto to investigate, after which they charged Surat with driving under influence.

Police added that Surat became uncooperative during arrest processing and that they additionally charged him with interfering with police.

Police released Surat on $1,000 bail for a May 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court where he will face the charges before a judge.

Queen Street Collision

At about 5:30 pm on May 4, motorist William Denc, 36, of 110 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 1990 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward on Queen Street, was struck from behind at Queen Street’s intersection with Mile Hill Road by motorist Geny Quroga, 31, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1998 Toyota RAV-4, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Quroga for following too closely.

Arrest Warrant

On May 5, police charged Matthew Eriquez, 17, of 3 Hawthorne Hill Road on an arrest warrant, lodging charges of third degree burglary, fourth degree larceny, and third degree criminal mischief.

The charges stem from a March incident at a Country Squire Road residence, police said. Police released Eriquez on $500 bail for a May 19 court appearance.
