Jessica Palermo recently chose to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., from July 3 to July 12. She will join 350 other high school students from across the country that demonstrates academic excellence, leadership potential, and an interest in a career in medicine. The program will introduce Jessica to a variety of concepts in public health, medical ethics, research, and general medical practice.
Thomas Jonathon Hunt, a sophomore at Washington and Lee University, recently earned honor roll status on the winter 2004 term.
Nicole Boggs, Sharmila Corson, Ashley Calero, and Allison Kirk were named to the third quarter honor roll for the 2003-04 school year at Laurelton Hall in Fairfield.
Joseph Blanchard and Erin MacKnight participated in the University of New Hampshireâs fifth annual Undergraduate Research Conference from April 26 to May 1. Josephâs presentation, âMicrobial Carbon and Nitrogen Substrate Utilization in Long-Term Heated Soil,â explored the possible future effects of global warming. Erinâs project, âStressors Experienced by Parents Raising Multiple-Birth Children,â sought to identify the most prominent stressors experienced by parents. By identifying these stressors, health care professionals could be able to better support expectant parents.
Michele Tidd, daughter of Paulette and Charley Tidd, recently received a Health Services Professional Scholarship from the US Army and was commissioned a second lieutenant on May 3. The scholarship will pay tuition, books, fees and a stipend for the remainder of Micheleâs education at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, she plans to serve as captain in the US Army Veterinary Corps.
