Key Rock Road

At about 1:30 pm on April 23, motorist Alice Hollett, 84, of Redding was driving a 2011 Volvo XC-70 northward on Key Rock Road, about 200 feet south of Sugar Street, when the auto went off the right side of the road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Hollett for making a restricted turn.

Energy Drink Stolen

Police report that at about 11 am on April 24, a man stole about $139 worth of Red Bull-brand energy drink from the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza, 228 South Main Street (State Route 25).

Police said the store reported the theft to them about 11:45 am on April 26.

The man who stole the energy drink is reported as being white, about 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and in his mid-20s with short, dark hair.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841 regarding Case #2016-8494.

Road Rage

State police said they received a complaint on the afternoon of April 25 concerning an alleged road rage incident that had occurred on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10.

State police said they then had the subject of the complaint, Christopher Dighton, 57, of Danbury come to the Troop A barracks in Southbury to provide a statement on what had occurred.

The complainant had alleged that Dighton threw an object at his/her vehicle, striking it and damaging it, state police said.

State police said they charged Dighton with throwing an object at a motor vehicle on the highway (first offense), second-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Dighton was released on $1,000 nonsurety bail for a May 9 court appearance, according to state police.

Unsecured Load

At about 7:25 pm on April 25, while traveling on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, a spare tire that was mounted on a trailer hauled behind a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by motorist Christopher Martin, 35, of Woburn, Mass., fell off of the trailer and then struck the hood and windshield of a nearby 2005 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Yongda Zhang, 44, of 27 Pearl Street, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Martin for driving with an unsecured load.

Chrysler Crash

State police said that motorist Mary Kathryn Maureen Halmose, 19, of 10 Buttonball Drive was driving a 1988 Chrysler LeBaron auto on the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 8:10 am on April 26, when the vehicle went out of control, spun about, and struck some guardcabling.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Halmose for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred on southbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Simm Lane, about 10:20 am on April 27, according to police.

In that incident, motorist Roberto Iriarte-Martinez, 45, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2001 Honda CR-V SUV, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Lesley Oberstadt, 28, of 29 Dayton Street, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Murano SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Oberstadt a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Wasserman Way

Police report that at about 6:26 pm on April 27, motorist Carol Thompson, 74, of 60 Osborne Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant auto eastward on Wasserman Way, west of Berkshire Road, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2004 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Paul Zumbo, 51, of Huntington. There were no injuries.

Hearing Aid Found

At about 10 am on April 29, a person found a hearing aid near the Bank of America's automatic teller machine (ATM), located outside that bank's office at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street, police report.

Old Green Road DUI

At about 2:12 am on April 30, motorist James Bowers, 23, of 3 Liberty Drive was driving a 2010 Nissan Pathfinder SUV westward near 10 Old Green Road, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder and struck some curbing and a utility pole, causing the pole to land on the SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said that after investigating, they charged Bowers with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

Following arrest processing, Bowers was released on $250 bail for a May 19 court appearance, police said.

DUI Arrest

Police said they received a report about 10:30 am on April 30, informing them that a motorist was driving erratically northward on South Main Street, near Bears Hill Road, so they responded to investigate.

Police report they found the vehicle in question and stopped it, after which they charged motorist William Hubric, 27, of New Milford with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following arrest processing, police released Hubric on $250 bail for a May 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Wet Ramp

At about 12:24 pm on May 1, motorist Elizabeth Cutrofello, 58, of Woodbury was driving a 2006 Mini Cooper auto on a wet Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, when the vehicle spun out of control and then struck some flex-beam metallic guardrailing with the front end and rear end of the auto, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they issued Cutrofello an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, and also verbally warned her for failure to carry a driver's license and for failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card.

Acura vs Ford

On May 2, motorist Kyle Leclair, 19, of Oxford was driving a 2002 Acura RSX auto westward on Wasserman Way behind motorist Patricia Curie, 23, of North Haven, who was driving a 2009 Ford Focus auto, police said. Both vehicles were in the left-turn lane for the Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84.

The Ford then stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by the Acura, police said. There were no injuries.

Wet Conditions

Police report that motorist Juan Carlos Mejia Santos, 30, of Kingston, N.Y., was driving a 2003 Honda Accord sedan eastward on Wasserman Way, just east of Mile Hill Road South, at about 11:42 am on May 2, as motorist Jon Nelson, 28, of 12 Osborn Hill Road Extension was driving a 2012 Ford Econoline van westward.

The Honda went out of control on the wet roadway, entered the opposite lane, and then struck the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Santos an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, failure to keep to the right on a curve, and for driving without a license.

Sandy Hook DUI

Police report that at about 8:30 pm on May 2, they received a report about a motorist who was driving erratically in the Glen Road/Church Hill Road area of Sandy Hook, so they went there to investigate.

Police said the found the driver in question in a parking lot behind 113 Church Hill Road. Police report that after investigating, they charged motorist Emily Jo Wild, 47, of Brookfield with driving under the influence.

Following processing, police released Wild on $250 bail for a May 12 court appearance.

Currituck DUI

Police report that motorist Tyler Scalera, 19, of Bridgewater was seen driving a 1996 Saab 9000 auto erratically northward Main Street on the night of May 3, after which the vehicle made a right turn onto Currituck Road where it crossed over that street's centerline multiple times and almost drove off the roadway.

Police said they stopped Scalera near Stony Brook Road to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and with failure to maintain the travel lane.

After processing, Scalera was released on $500 bail for a May 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Four Warrants

After learning that police held four warrants for his arrest, Thomas Sinclair, 29, of New Milford went to the police station on the night of May 3 to surrender.

Police said they charged Sinclair with three separate counts of failure to respond to an infraction in connection with three incidents in area towns, including Newtown, in which he was stopped by police on motor vehicle violations.

Also, police charged Sinclair with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a pending sixth-degree larceny charge that was lodged against him by Danbury police.

After processing, police released Sinclair on $2,500 bail for an upcoming court appearance.

Wasserman Way

Police report a two-vehicle collision on a wet Wasserman Way, just east of its intersection with Mile Hill Road South, about 7:42 pm on May 4.

Motorist William Schiebe, 22, of Monroe was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla sedan westward, as motorist David Pettit, 48, of 2 Avalon Way was driving a 2011 Hyundai Veracruz SUV eastward, police said.

As the Toyota was negotiating a left curve in the road, it skidded on the wet pavement, entered the opposite lane and then struck the Hyundai, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Schiebe an infraction on charges of traveling too fast for conditions, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
