We Pay Taxes, Too
We Pay Taxes, Too
To the Editor:
In response to the letter âThe Middle School Traffic Snarlâ [Letter Hive, 4/29/11]. In regards to the statement, âBetter yet, do you wonder why our traffic control officer leaves the middle school to go patrol the traffic at St Rose private school? Why are my taxes paying for transportation and traffic patrollers at a private school?â
I am a parent of two children that attend St Rose and I also pay taxes in Newtown just like everyone else. I could ask the same question, âWhy are my taxes paying for public school costs when my children do not attend the public schools?â Think about how much more our taxes would be if there werenât a St Rose School, or a Frasier-Woods. Could the town handle an additional 450-plus students in the school system without a sizable increase in taxes? I think not. All I ask is that before slamming the private schools, remember we, too, pay taxes.
