Gladys D. Kocis, 90, of Newtown, died peacefully, May 1, after a brief illness. She was born in North Hampton, Mass., and then moved to Bridgeport, where she graduated from Harding High School and St Vincent’s School of Nursing.

Mrs Kocis was a resident of Trumbull for 50 years, where she raised four children, and was an active member of St Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church. She also worked at the Nice n’ Fresh bakery on Broadbridge Avenue for well over 20 years.

She enjoyed long walks on the beach in Stratford with her dog, Nina.

Survivors include her children Amy Potucek, and her husband John, of Newtown, Susan L. Kocis, Savannah, Ga., and John J. Kocis III, and his wife Rosemary, of Monroe; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Norman Kocis. Her wonderful and caring longtime friend Verena Evans also survives Mrs Kocis.

Her family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff at Masonicare at Newtown for outstanding care and dedication during her stay. Her wish has been granted; she has passed onto a better place.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on a date to be announced.

Donations in her memory may be made to Masonicare at Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, Attention: Recreation Department; or if you wish, say a prayer for Mrs Kocis, or smile and say “Hello” to an older person, or take a walk on the beach and find a treasure.
