Darien A 16, Newtown Senior Gold 6: The Senior Gold team ran into a tough opponent in Darien this past weekend. In a tough loss there were some bright spots as Brittany Meisenheimer hustled her way to 5 ground balls. The defense was led by Celia Gold who caused 4 turnovers and the offense was led by Maddy Bridges, Kat Jennings-Fischer, Julia Wiberg, and Kyle Dandrea.
Junior Gold 13, Shelton 4: Bridget Walsh and Nikki Zaccaro made 10 saves while Emily Bell, Samantha Arnold and Peyton Cutolo played solid defense. Zaccaro, Walsh, Lauren Zimmerman, Julia Sughrue, Meghan Doyle, Nevan Gattey, Olivia Holman and Tessa Leon-Gambetta provided the scoring for the Junior Gold.
Junior Gold 12, Greenwich 4: Meghan Doyle and Bridget Walsh kept the Greenwich team in check, stopping 7 shots on goal. Emily Dirga and Jessica Maturo were strong on defense and Peyton Cutolo led the team in ground balls. The scoring was spread across the team with Samantha Arnold, Caroline Caporale, Nevan Gattey, Olivia Holman, Tessa Leon-Gambetta, Maturo, Bridget Walsh, Nikki Zaccaro, and Lauren Zimmerman all finding the net.
Junior Blue 9, Bethel 1: Newtown goalies Alex Futterman and Jenna Carvahlo combined to stop 8 shots in another outstanding performance for the Newtown netminders. The defense, which thwarted many Bethel opportunities, was led by the ferocious Julia âThe Assassinâ Haskins and Lexi âGoldie Locksâ Leidlein. Bethels goalie was outstanding but could hold off the Newtown assault for only so long. Lauren Carrino, Rylee Mulligan, Danielle Samson, Charli Condon, and Olivia âSpecsâ Hage controlled the midfield and netted goals. Lizzie Hodge and Hayley Lambert provided scoring from their attack positions.

Newtown Bantam Gold 5, Monroe Red 4: Outstanding team effort was the story of the game. Winning hard-fought ground balls were William Swierbut, CJ Cuomo, and Matt Heinlen. A late game winning goal by Jack Stanton and tough defense in the final minutes by Ben Grenier, Torin Kearney, and Will Hathaway, along with a outstanding kick save by goalie Thomas Daigle, preserved the win for the Gold team. Offensively, Stephen Sedensky set the pace with 2 goals. JP Iaropoli and Tyler DiMartino, along with Stanton, chipped in a goal each.
Newtown Bantam Gold 2, Shelton (Team 1) 3: A tight game with great transitional play at midfield kept the game close. Outstanding defense was provided by Will Hathaway, JP Iaropoli, and Matt Heinlen. Leading the ground ball charge was Gavin Murray , CJ Cuomo, and Torin Kearney. Goals by James Iaropoli and Ben Grenier had the game knotted until the final 20 seconds when Shelton scored the winning goal.
Newtown Bantam Gold 5, Monroe White 0: Tenacious defense, terrific goaltending by Thomas Daigle, and domination of the ground balls lead to a offensive explosion by the Gold team. Ryan Poupon, Quinn Karnas, Peter Reelick, and Gavin Murray were solid on defense. Ground balls by William Swierbut, Nate Paltauf, and Tyler DiMartino lead to excellent scoring opportunities. Offensively, Jack Stanton, Stephen Sedensky, Jacob Anthony, James Iaropoli, and Nate Paltauf all scored for the Gold.
Newtown Bantam Gold 1 vs Shelton (Team 2) 1: Although the majority of the game was played in the Shelton end, Peter Reelick scored the lone goal for the Gold team. Defensively, Matt Heinlen, Jacob Anthony, and William Swierbut played well. Ground balls by Will Hathaway and Jack Stanton and clearing passes by goaltender Daigle kept the pressure on Shelton.
Newtown Blue 1, Shelton 2: Newtown Bantam Blue took the field against a solid Shelton team. Anchored by goalie Matthew Fernand, William Wallace and Eric Burbank enhanced Newtownâs defense with great positional play. While Gus Coffeyâs attack play kept Sheltonâs defense busy, Brett Pierce and Jeffrey Garrity won ground balls, leading to an assist for Pierce to goal-scorer Kyle Shelton.
Newtown Blue 2, Monroe 4: Newtown Bantam Blue continued to focus on passing and positional play with great attack work by Daniel Delia and Andrew Jacobs. Matthew Carpenter and Brett Pierce tallied the Newtown goals behind solid ball movement by Jeffrey Garrity, Riley Ward, and Eric Burbank. Goalie Matthew Jacobs stood strong against numerous Monroe shots and delivered solid clears for his team.
Newtown Blue 2, Shelton 2: William Wallace stonewalled a hungry Shelton team, aided by Luke Wellmanâs tenacious defense. Solid and patient playmaking from Ryan Ruddy and Tristan Andrew led to offense that received goals from Matthew Fernand and Jeffrey Garrity.
Newtown Blue 3, Monroe 1: Newtownâs attack and middies dominated the field, with Tristan Andrew, Riley Ward, and Gus Coffey controlling the midfield. Brett Pierce and Luke Wellman (2) found the back of the net, while Tom Bassett and Kyle Shelton anchored the defense in front of goalie William Wallace.

Newtown 8, Danbury 0: Newtown boys overpowered Danbury, led by Ethan Hoffman who ruled the field with Matthew Booch-Bucci (3), Nick Lansing (2), and Kenny Barber (2) and Max Weber (1) reaching the back of the net. Assist machines Colin McCafferty, Ethan Hoffman, and Riley Rising kept feeding the balls, with David Anderson continuously pounding the Danbury goalie with 9 shots on goal. Max Weber, Nate Sanchez, and Oliver Wood ran hard, with great play by Shawn âSpeed Machineâ McCarthy. Jack âThe Wallâ Wellman was strong in goal with âBad, Badâ Cyril Brown backing him up, and great defensive play by Cayden Dunn, Sam Cox, Sean Wallace, and Noah LaFerriere.
Newtown 5, Old Lyme 3: Jack Wellman protected the goal in a tough battle against Old Lyme, with great defense by Sam Cox, Cayden Dunn, Noah LaFerriere, Cyril Brown, and Sean Wallace. Kenny Barber, Matt Bucci, and Shawn McCarthy ruled the midfield, with Barber grabbing 2 goals, and Nick Lansing, Matt Bucci, and Shawn McCarthy each getting another. Elliot Gregory and Ethan Hoffman snagged key ground balls, with Austin LeBeast LeBlanc, Colin McCafferty, Oliver Wood and âTwin Towersâ Adam and Max Weber tore up the turf in the victory.
Newtown 8, New Canaan 3: In a battle of the bruisers, Newtown led the charge, winning 22 ground balls and defeating an overly confident New Canaan. David Anderson scored twice, with Nick Lansing, Elliot Gregory, Ethan Hoffman, Kenny Barber, Max Weber, and âRockinââ Riley Rising all getting on the board. Adam Weber, Evan Eggleston, Matt Booch-Bucci, Shawn McCarthy, and Nate Sanchez worked magic on the midfield, with Jack Wellman his usual force in the goal. Sean Wallace and Sam Cox proved to be a brick wall, with Cyril Brown, Cayden Dunn, and Noah LaFerriere sending frustrated New Canaan packing. Austin âLeBeastâ LeBlanc had some key creative moves both on and off the field, and Colin McCafferty proved tough on the field, and level-headed off.
