Granite Supply Firm Approved By P&Z
Granite Supply Firm
Approved By P&Z
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) has approved allowing a granite supply business to locate at 292 South Main Street in the townâs Aquifer Protection District (APD).
Swenson Granite Company, LLC, plans to build a store, garage, and yard on the lot, just south of Buzzâs Mobil.
P&Z members granted Swenson a special exception to the zoning regulations to use the property. The special exception is required because the site is in the APD. P&Z members last June approved revised, stricter regulations concerning development in the APD, the area lying above the environmentally sensitive Pootatuck Aquifer.
In a recent review of the development project, the Conservation Commission found there would be no significant adverse effect on the aquifer.
The firm, established in 1883, quarries granite in New Hampshire and Vermont. The South Main Street site is planned for the storage and sales of granite and stone, not for manufacturing. The company will sell granite to builders for use as building stone and facing stone.
In approving the application, P&Z members required that a planted buffer be installed along the southerly and westerly property boundaries, that there be a gated entrance to the business, and that no vehicles be allowed to park outside the gate.
