Burn Victim Remains Critical

A local woman remained in critical but stable condition Thursday morning in Bridgeport Hospital’s burn center, where she is being treated for second- and third-degree burns on a third of her body following an April 25 accidental flash fire at her Budd Drive home.

Maureen Carrigg, 58, of 6 Budd Drive is undergoing treatment at the hospital following the flash fire, which was fueled by an oxygen supply which she was using.

Hospital spokesman John Cappiello said it is not unusual for a burn victim to remain in critical condition for weeks after suffering serious burns.

Ms Carrigg received the burns on her head, arms, and torso while smoking a cigarette while using a pump-style oxygen supply while in a hospital bed, authorities have said. The fire caused minimal damage to the home.
