Groundbreaking

At Kensington Green

SOUTHBURY — Ground has been broken for Kensington Green of Southbury, an assisted living residence that is scheduled to open in the spring of 2001.

The 102,000-square-foot community will include 120 apartments, including 24 apartments in a separate, secured unit for people living with early-stage Alzheimer’s Disease and related memory impairments.

Kensington Green will feature studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. Prices start at $2,900 per month. Residents pay a monthly rent on a lease basis; there are no up-front or “buy-in” fees. Services offered include daily assistance with personal care such as bathing, dressing, and other activities of daily living. The rent also includes three meals daily, transportation, weekly housekeeping, laundry services, and daily activities and entertainment.

Kensington Green will be staffed by licensed nurses and certified health aides. A health center will be located on the premises for resident health screenings and physician appointments. Residents also will be provided with emergency response devices to alert in-house staff of immediate health care needs.

The general contractor of the project is Haynes Construction of Seymour. Bennett Sullivan Architects of Southbury designed the three-story building.
