DANBURY â The Pro Arte Singers, one of the most outstanding vocal groups in the East, will perform in Danbury on Saturday, May 20. The performance will take place at 8:15 pm at Ives Concert Hall, on the midtown campus of Western Connecticut State University. The concert is sponsored by Danbury Concert Association in cooperation with the music department of the university.
The Pro Arte Singers is the only fully-professional choral group in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. It was formed 25 years ago by Arthur Sjogren, the groupâs artistic director. The singers perform a broad repertoire, from familiar classics to more contemporary pieces, and have toured nationally and internationally, appearing in their own concerts and at major music festivals.
A string and harpsichord ensemble will accompany the singers in their May 20 appearance.
The concert will be the fourth and final in Danbury Concert Associationâs 1999-2000 season. New subscribers to the 2000-2001 series may attend the May 20th performance free of charge. Adult admission is $32 for all four concerts; thanks to a grant from Danbury Cultural Commission, students age 18 and under are admitted free of charge.
The associationâs 2000-01 season will feature acclaimed pianist Santiago Rodriguez on October 15; the Orchestra da Camera Italiana with conductor-violinist Salvatore Accardo on November 4; Spoleto Festival USA Chamber Music on April 1; and on May 19, pianist Andrew Armstrong in a return engagement with violinist Ayako Yoshida.
