Lois H. Winspur
Lois Holmes Winspur died peacefully with the knowing love of her family and friends on February 20, at the age of 98.
She was born in Bridgeport, a daughter of Donald G. Holmes & Florence (Gorham) Holmes. Her loving husband of 41 years, Donald Winspur, preceded her in 1999.
Lois grew up in Bridgeport and then resided in Newtown since 1958, where she and Donald built their home and life together. She retired from Newtown Savings Bank after 19 years of service and was a member of Newtown Congregational Church.
After retirement, she took care of Jesse and Erik Birden, her grandsons, since they were school-aged. She looked forward to and loved waiting for their school bus to arrive. She deeply enjoyed being a part of their lives.
Throughout her life, Lois had an abiding love for animals, from the wildlife she would quietly watch meander through her yard to her pet dogs and in her later years, her cat, Flo.
Lois is survived by her niece, Susan Lois (Clark) Wineland and her husband, Paul; her great nieces, Rebecca, Emily, Sarah, and Carolyn Wineland, and Grace Clark; and her great nephew Eric Clark. She also leaves her adopted grandsons, Jesse Birden, wife Erin, and great grandson Jesse Jr and Erik Birden, wife Stephanie, as well as her devoted friends, Maureen and Jay Birden.
Lois was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Holmes Clark and husband Raymond, and nephews Russell and Paul Clark.
Lois was loved for countless reasons. The impact she made on those who loved and cared for her will be etched in their souls forever.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate her on Friday, May 10, at 1 pm, at Newtown Village Cemetery.
