The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present Richard Koleszar painting a landscape in oil on Wednesday, May 10, at 7:30 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The demonstration is open to the public and admission is free.

Koleszar studied at Silvermine Guild Art School (then the College of Art) before entering Syracuse University and earning his BFA. His studies were interrupted by two years in the Armed Services, when he was honored with the Soldier of the Cycle Award. His memories of the hills of Germany and scenery of Switzerland linger.

After working as arts director for Grey Advertising Agency and SSC&B in New York City, the beauty of the landscape of New England called him home.

Koleszar’s passion for watercolor brought him to study with renowned artists such as Frank Webb, Robert Calrow, Tony Couch, and Tony Van Hasselt.

The artist’s reverence for the earth is reflected in his work. With watercolor and oil as his mediums, he paints landscapes, seascapes, and portrait commissions. His style invokes the viewer to feel nature as he does.

Koleszar taught watercolor at Founders Hall in Ridgefield, and has exhibited widely, from Cartus Danbury, Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance, and International Watercolor Exhibition to The Mark Twain Library Show, Northeast Watercolor Society, Ridgefield Recreation Center, and Sarah’s Wine Bar.

Reservations are not taken for SCAN programs but additional information may be found at SCANart.org.
