Newtown High Track Teams Have Standouts

Newtown High School’s girls’ track team defeated three opponents in a meet at Blue & Gold Stadium on April 30, and the NHS boys’ squad defeated one opponent and lost to two others in a meet at Pomperaug High School in Southbury on April 29. Both squads had several standout performances. Results are as follows:

Girls

NHS 103, Pomperaug 47; NHS 108.5, Bunnell of Stratford 41.5; NHS 130, Stratford 16.

Newtown’s first-place finishers:

4x100 meter relay: Jackie Mooney, Nicole Russo, Brooke Newton, Jenna Calandro, 53.7

100 hurdles: Melissa Buccino, 16.1.

100: Reagan Cerney, 12.8

400: Cerney, 60.2.

300 hurdles: Buccino, 47.7.

200: Newton, 27.5

3200: Schwartz, 12:17.7.

4x400: Shelby Tolla, Taylor Zingaro, Eggleston, Cerney, 4:18.1.

Pole vault: Calandro, 11-7.

Discus: Amy Anyoha, 111-5.

Shot-put: Michaela Nowacki, 29-8.5.

Javelin: Nowacki, 101-6.

4x800: Hannah Booth, Sarah Lyon, Kathryn D’Allessandro, and Kelly Coughlin, 11:08.6.

100 Hurdles: Zoe Eggleston, 16.9.

3200: Brianne Moulder, 12:40.9.
