Westport 8a 10, Newtown Gold 4: Newtownâs Senior Gold Boys team endured its first loss of the season against a tough Westport team. Despite a good effort, Westport outplayed Newtown on ground balls by a margin of 43-29. Newtownâs offense had opportunities, taking 20 shots but only connecting with the back of the net four times. Goals were scored by Colin Morris (1), Trey Trudell (2), and Dan Hebert (1). Hebert, Spath and McNamara each had an assist. Defensively, James Marusi played well at close defense and Michael Lord hustled on midfield. Good goaltending by Evan Isaacs (10 saves).
Newtown Blue 7, Eli 3: Patrick Cappoziello scored three goals and had one assist as the Senior Blue boys started out their season with a win over the Eli Seniors. Graham Derrickson scored two goals and had an assist, and Nate Coleman scored a goal and had an assist. Ted Benoit was the defensive hero, making 16 saves in goal. Hunter Bassett picked up seven ground balls.
Pomperaug 5, Newtown Blue 2: Patrick Cappoziello and Graham Derrickson scored unassisted goals for Newtown. Ted Benoit was again the defensive stalwart in the cage, saving 15 of Pomperaugâs 20 shots. Jacob Enriquez scooped six ground balls.

Juniors
Stratford 8, Newtown Blue 1: Brenton Scottâs speed and hustle provided one of the few bright spots for Newtown in a one-sided game. Brenton was the fastest player on the field and he used his legs to chase down Stratford players and to get ground balls.
Newtown Gold 10, Litchfield Navy 0: Casey Fuller made nine saves and Chase Hutchinson scored three goals to lead Newtown. Cody Ryan scored twice, and individual tallies were made by J.P. Kitzmiller, Jacob Newton-Tanzer, Conner Hanley, Stephen Walsh, and Ian Whaley. Max Lopez and Tyler Hanley each had three ground balls and Jack Kearney played well on defense.
Newtown Blue 7, Eli 5: Â Newtown midfielder Conrad Morris sparked the team by scoring the first goal against Eli. Center midfielder Logan Walsh dominated the face offs and ground balls. Robby Lasher, Mitchell Stewart, and Ben Payne managed to out hustle Eli and gave Newtown fresh legs and a winning attitude. Mitch Stewart scored his first goal of the season and Jason Savoca shocked Eli with a brilliant play. As Eli threatened to score in the third quarter Jason intercepted a pass in front of the crease and launched himself on a fast break which lead to a goal by Matt Bouton. Colin Reilly also scored and used his quickness and smart play to help Newtown secure the win. Some controlled and physical play from Matt White on defense rounded out a well played game for Newtown âs Junior Blue.

Hofstra 3, Maryland 3: Hofstraâs offense was led by the passing and scoring combination of Ethan Tousignant (2 assists) to Henry Korth (2 goals). Oliver Wood and Jack Hanley were tenacious on defense, knocking down passes and scooping multiple ground balls. For Maryland, Brian Gallagher and Elliot Gregory worked hard for ground balls and each scored a goal in the second half to keep the game close. With the time expiring, goalie Alex Budd made a tremendous save to keep the score deadlocked.
Syracuse 4, Dartmouth 3: Owen McInerney and Max Goldstein scored goals to spark the Syracuse offense. Tommy Kitzmiller and Alex Hess were aggressive on ground balls to limit the scoring opportunities of Dartmouth . With a limited bench, Dartmouth stayed in the game with great play on both sides of the field by Jack Wellman and Sean Wallace. Goalie Cyril Brown had a strong game in the cage to keep his team in the game.

U11 Lightning
Riptide 5, Rattlers 2: The Rattlers got goals by Michael Braddick and Matt Davis and outstanding defense by Jeremy Doski and Michael Poulter. Steven Flaxlanger made several saves in the goal, and Austin LeBlanc provided great all around play. For the Riptide, goals by Grant Varnum, Bubba Condon, Ryan Marusi, and Ethan Marsh led the way. Patrick Conte and Sean McCafferty had assists.
Outlaws 9, Dragons 8: Sam Cox had three goals for the Outlaws. Nick Genovese had several assists and Curtis Giles and Gabriel Barrett played outstanding defense. The Dragons got goals by Scotty Bauer, Clay Gattey, and Christian Hoffman and good defense from Bobby Haskins.
Lizards 9, Cannons 7: The Cannons got great hustle and ground balls by Michael Parker along with three goals by Andrew Braun. Ryan Sullivan played outstanding defense. For the Lizards, Peyton Manning scored a goal, Deegan Beauchemin had two goals, and Matt Meyers had three goals in the second half to bring the Lizards back on top. Brothers Max and Adam Weber made great offensive plays and strong goalie work in the cage.

U13 Juniors
Bandits 13, Shamrox 7: Shamrox goals were scored by Steven Rahr, Tyler Hanley, Conrad Morris, and Jacob Newton âTanzer. Cameron Partrick delivered solid all around play. The Bandits were paced by goals from Owen Bowler, Tyler Gregory, Stephen Walsh, Logan Walsh, Tom Bauer, and Chase Hutchison; and Matt Bouton and Jake Lambert with good defense.
Titans 7, Roughnecks 4: For the Roughnecks, Cody Ryan, Patrick Cain, and Casey Fuller each scored a goal. The Titans prevailed on the strength of offense from Christian Barrett and Aaron Hill with 2 goals each and single strikes from Ian Whaley, Colin Riley, and Brenton Scott.

Senior Gold Girls Go Undefeated At Greenwich Jamboree

Newtown 3, Wilton Senior A 3
In their first games of the season the Senior Gold Girls came ready to play at the Greenwich Jamboree against some of NYâs and CTâs finest teams. They defeated Yorktown A and New Canaan 8A to start, tied Fairchester and finished with a thriller against Wilton Senior A. The Newtown defense continuously stuffed the opposition, with standout performances by Rachel Hyland, Christina Gould, Kelsey Karp, Katherine Lotrecchiano, and Katelyn Kean. Christina Caporale and Bryanna Leblanc split time in the goal and combined for 14 saves on the day. Kaitlin VosWinkel continuously hustled her way to a team high 10 ground balls to give Newtown the possessions it needed to score. The offensive attack was led by Molly Mahony, Meredith Bridges, Vos Winkel, Erin Kenning, and Julia Trudell who all scored goals for Newtown Senior Gold.

The Senior Blue Girls showed up in Greenwich with a winning attitude, and it yielded results on the field. They ended up with two wins and two losses against some good competition. The defense was led by Katie McManus, Michelle Isabella, Libby DiDimizio, Tess Knesiel, Elie Mouchantat, and Julia Clarke. In the goal Sydney Hansen, Tess Kneisel, Mary Oliver, and Elie Mouchantat stepped up to record 16 saves on the day. The attack was led by Emily Molloy, Paige Murphy, Meagan Knox, Caroline Kingsley, and Stephanie Perrotti who each scored goals.

Junior Blue Girls
Wakeman 7, Newtown 4: Newtown battled a fast and talented Wakeman squad to a 2-1 halftime deficit behind the stellar goalkeeping of Alexa Summerlin and the defense of Claire Hebert, Amanda Crowell, and Maddy Peck. After sustaining five unanswered Wakeman goals, Newtown rallied for the final three tallies to close the gap. Anna Northrop led the offense with three goals and one assist, while Carly Ferris had one goal and one assist. Olivia Korth and Jilliane Lyon anchored the attack.
Newtown 9, New Milford 1: Newtownâs offense was led by Carly Ferris with three goals. On the defensive end, Olivia Ingham and Amanda Crowell played strong. Newcomers Noelle Benson, Ashley Headon, Haley Kean, and Sam Rodriquez were strong all-around. Alexa Summerlin made two brilliant saves in goal.
Newtown 11, Redding 2: McKensie Hammons and Tricia Sullivan stood out on defense, while Mary Beth Semosky protected the cage. Sharing the 11 goals for Newtown were Maggie Kost, Meaghan Brophy, Kristie VosWinkel, Lindsey Jagoe, Brittany Cologna, Emily Maher, and Bailey Solomons.
Newtown 8, Ridgefield 4: The Gold girls started their season off with a win over Ridgefield. Breaking a 3-3 tie at halftime, Newtown came back strong and scored 5 goals in the second half and scooped up over 35 ground balls throughout the game. New players Karly Gregorio, Eliza Eggleston, Tricia Sullivan, Bailey Solomons, McKensie Hammons, and Lindsey Jagoe played strong games.
