USAF Band of Liberty Concert Band is an exceptional performing unit that delivers programs chosen to highlight the diversity of America’s musical and cultural heritage, combining many different styles of music. Members are highly talented, professional musicians who bring to each concert the skill and knowledge gained from years of study and performing experience.

The band’s commander and conductor is First Lieutenant David A. Alpar, who entered the Air Force in October 2001. he was named the 2006 AFMC/PA Band Officer of the Year, 2002  SAF/PAB Band Airman of the Year, and the 2002 37TRW Wing Staff Agency Airman of the Year.

The program in Newtown is called “A Symphony of Fables.” The performance will open with “The Star Spangled Banner,” conclude with “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” and will include works that celebrate The National Game (by John Philip Sousa), a salute to the Armed Services (arranged by Cray), and the program’s title work, a symphony by Julie Giroux that pays homage to five of childhood’s best known stories: The Lion and the Mouse, The Pied Piper, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Ugly Duckling and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

The Band of Liberty has been entertaining audiences throughout New England for over 30 years. The group supports the Air Force mission by providing world class musical performances, free of charge, in support of troop morale, recruiting, community relations, and the preservation of our national heritage.

First assigned to Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, and originally known as the 541st Air Force Band of the Southwest, the band relocated to Pease AFB, New Hampshire, in 1978. It was then renamed the Air Force Band of New England.

Over the next 12 years the band became synonymous with pride and patriotism, bringing performances to the New England states. In 1991 the band was assigned once again, this time to Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts, renamed USAF Band of Liberty, and its performance territory now includes New England, New York and New Jersey.
