Making A Difference
Making
A Difference
To the Editor:
On April 26 the sun shone, despite all predictions, on the ninth annual Independent Living Day sponsored by Newtown Youth & Family Services. Over 60 volunteers raked, washed, and planted to help some Newtown seniors get their property into shape for spring. We had a wonderful day, but we couldnât have done it without the help of some supportive people and groups.
Thanks to many churches, school organizations, merchants, the Senior Center and The Newtown Bee for getting out the word about Independent Living Day. Thanks to Pepsi (North America), Dunkinâ Donuts, Bagel Delight, Starbucks, Subway, Stew Leonardâs, and Big Y for continuing and much appreciated support. Thanks to all the parent and staff drivers who transported our crews and worked alongside them; this day would have been impossible without you.
Special thanks to the Newtown Middle School for letting us use their space, to the janitors who helped us clean up and to the staff of Newtown Youth & Family Services for tireless devotion, assistance, and support. Finally, thanks to all our youth and families who came, worked hard, and made a difference. Letâs do it again next year!
