Danbury Hospital Plans Annual Child Abuse Conference

 DANBURY –– The Danbury Hospital Department of Pediatrics will host the 5th Annual Child Abuse Conference on Friday, May 16, from 7:30 am to 4 pm, at the hospital’s John C. Creasy Center for Health Education auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue. Park free in the Red Parking Garage, Locust Avenue entrance.

The conference features a panel of physician faculty from University of Vermont College of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston College, and the New York Medical College.

The conference kicks off on Thursday, May 15, at 6 pm with a dinner reception at The Inn at Ethan Allen, Exit 4 off I-84, 21 Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury. The featured guest speaker will be Connecticut Lt Gov M. Jodi Rell, who will present “Silent No More.”

 The conference agenda continues the next day with:

“The Multidisciplinary Team Evaluation of Child Abuse,” presented by Dr Lawrence R. Ricci, clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Vermont College of Medicine;

“Forty-one Years Since Publication of ‘The Battered Child Syndrome’: Lessons Learned,” presented by Dr John M. Leventhal, professor of pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine;

“Crisis in the American Family: Implications for Prevention of Child Abuse,” presented by Dr Eli H. Newberger, assistant professor of pediatrics, Harvard Medical School;

“The Men They Will Become: Jazz Takes on Male Character,” presented by Dr Eli H. Newberger, and Jimmy Mazzy;

“Teasing and Bullying: Implications for Health and Research,” presented by Dr June Andrews Horowitz, associate professor of nursing, Boston College;

“Child Maltreatment Prevention: A National Imperative,” presented by Dr Jack S.C. Fong, clinical associate professor of pediatrics at New York Medical College and chairman of the Danbury Hospital Department of Pediatrics.

Both the dinner reception and the conference are open to the public. Cost for attendance at the dinner is $50 per person. The conference fee, which includes breakfast, lunch, and course materials, is $60 for physicians and $35 for health care professionals.
