Celebrating Volunteers

To the Editor:

April 27–May 3 is National Volunteer Week. Each week since 1974 one week has been set aside to recognize and celebrate the efforts of the thousands of people in this country who volunteer their time and energies to help others. At Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut we are proud and honored to recognize the contributions of our many hospice volunteers.

To our family support and bereavement volunteers, thank you for your passion and compassion in meeting the needs of our patients and their families. Your support, dedication, and understanding are blessings to the families we serve and an integral part of the hospice team approach to caring for our patients. To our fundraising volunteers, thank you for your tireless efforts to raise the funds to keep our mission alive and well. Your vision, teamwork, and results not only provide us with the necessary financial support, but also spread the word in the community of the services we provide. To our administrative volunteers, thank you for keeping us organized. Your assistance in handling all of the paperwork helps us to provide quality health care.

We appreciate the commitment of the members of our professional advisory committee and board of directors who guide us in fulfilling our mission.

Many thanks to all of the civic, corporate, and community organizations who support us in so many ways. Volunteers, such as the members of the National Charity League’s Redding Chapter and many of the staff at Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation, make a difference that extends beyond their own organization.

We are inspired by the depth of compassion, the commitment to both patients and their families, and the limitless abilities we witness among our volunteers. Regional Hospice is blessed to have so many members of our community devote their time and their hearts to our team.
